Irun my shows from a laptop and get exceptional sound levels. I have to turn it pretty low going through the mixer. I did get drop outs before converting the operating system to Windows XP. I have an external sound card but have never used it. It is a Creative Labs USB SoundBlaster Live.
Gets pretty good write ups on Amazon.com
One of these days I am going to have to make time to test it.
