I think that may be a normal problem. Video is a constant change picture which takesa lot of memory where the graphics used in CDG has very little area that has to change (the letters) so requires much less memory.
Sam may have the right idea of using a separate computer for the DJ part and using a mixer to fade in and out from one computer to the other.
