I just upgraded to Micostudio 4.001 to see if I would have the same problem, I did not so the program (Microstudio 4.001) shoudl not be the cause. Here are a few things to try:
1. Make sure you have all of the "Windows Updates" for Windows XP. Don't trust the "Express" button for it will only give you the critical updates, use the "Custom" button.
2. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card.
If the problem still happens after these updates:
!. Unistall Microstudio
2. Restart Your Computer
3. Install Microstudio 4.001
If you changed ANYTHING on your computer BEFORE you installed Microstudio 4.001, change it back.
