No need to shout.

Hoster will work with many disk drives other than Plextors which have been the staple of CDG reading and writing for years. However it doesn't garentee to work with all drives.
The "Reader" column should say "Show" or "Hide" indicating whether you want Hoster to see and use the drive or Hide it and not use it. If the drive will not read karaoke disks typically you would want to hide it.

I don't know why the sound would be poor quality. Regardless of how well a drive can reproduce graphics, all drives should do a decent job of importing the audio.
A sound card problem maybe?

I would get your computer updates from microsoft. Soundcard updates from the card manufactuer and firmware updates from the manu for your disk drive, reboot and try again.

But ultimately if a drive won't work for CDG it simply won't work.

MTU sells drives that have been pretested to work with CDG. This would be a good place to start if you can't get yours to work.
