Laptop burner problem

I would like to offer a heads up concerning the new MTU laptop burner to anyone unable to get it to work on a Toshiba. I struggled with the usual program glitches using the original burner in my Toshiba. After giving up and buying the MTU burner said to work with all versions, the burner would not run any version. It returned a system error IDE 1 missing. I didn't exactly trust the first installers so I took it to the local, very experienced Toshiba laptop repair center. They reported that it was not compatible. They said that the burner was “cable type”. What is needed is a “master type”. Many Toshibas will have this problem. Therefore, it would seem wise to check with Toshiba regarding the cable or master configuration in your model before buying. Not blaming MTU. They certainly can’t anticipate such hardware problems in all laptops. Perhaps Bryan can explain the technicalities?
