What I ended up with was a mix match of songs verses songbook data and I ended up deleting the songs directory and restoring it from the backup. Now I am back to square one with my original problem/question. Can I import kma data between two hard drives or is it best to just load the disks one at a time every few months?
You did this slightly backwards. The Merge KMA Files command is a bit misleading. What it is actually doing is Merging the records in the database to prevent duplicate BookIDs. When a duplicate is encountered it changes the incoming ID to a new one.
You need to copy the songs to your directory (and it should ask you if you want to overwrite the old one). Then run the Merge KMA Files, but list only your directory as the source. This way all the "new" files will be incorporated into your database.

I hope you know you have to have an original copy for every song you have loaded. So if you and your partner are not buying two copies each time then what you are doing is not legal. You can not run two shows without having two originals.
