Kevin,
It sounds like the drive that you are using is loosing the last track. The on,y time that I have seen this is when the customers drive doesn't support something, mulitisession maybe, but I am not sure. Most of the time I have seen this fixed by upgrading the Firmware for your drive from the Manufacturers website.

Try this and let us know what happens.
