other causes of "hum"
Be aware that the lighting in your venue can also have an impact on your sound. Fluorescent lights, or those new compact fluorescent energy-saver bulbs, can cause quite a significant hum through the speakers even if the ground of the laptop is lifted (and does the same thing with non-laptop systems). Just an FYI.
