Again, I really believe it must be the sound card since I can play cd's just fine, it's just my pc applications (hoster and otsdj) that are giving me trouble.

Mike, your assessment of the problem is way off base.
Part On! states it is working, then it stops, and a reboot fixes it for a while.
This is not a Hoster or any other software problem. He also states it is with Hoster and OtsDJ both. Something is changing, and software doesn't act this way.
Sounds to me like hardware is warming up, then it changes when used. Running audio through hardware will heat things up.
