That hit my pet peeve right on the button. The use of the word Karaoke automatically signals CDG to most of us in the Karaoke world, but not necessarily so with the burner manufacturers.
I first bought an Acer drive that was advertised to handle KARAOKE . I guess there was an angel on my shoulder, because I didn't buy direct, but went to my pc guru and specified I was looking for a burner that was CDG compatable. He came up with Acer, and ordered it.
After a month of not being able to get it to work, with the Acer support team scratching their heads( really up a tree and trying to help me) I got to talk to an engineer who informed me that they never supported CDG, and never would. They supported VCD.When I suggested to him that they were using false advertising by not being specific in their claims, he said they were technically correct and would do nothing.
Here's where that angel came in. In the meantime I found MTU and ordered a Plextor and Microstudio. MTU lucked out there, as had I bought Microstufdio initially, like any normal customer I would have been blaming the software
I was also able to give the Acer back to the shop, as they admitted I'd specified CDG, not just Karaoke.
Moral of the story...make sure it will support CDG, not just Karaoke.
