The reason they take a long time to read is because hoster tries to read even damaged, or unreadable disks. it will go through, and if it cant read a track at say 40x it will slow down till it can. some disks are so bad, they slow down to 1 x to read in.
after you look at the disk for scratches, and fingerprints (fingerprints are a killer). Hold the disk up to the light, and see if you can see any pinholes of light through the label. this will also make it unreadable.
avoid network access, and using the computer for doing other things while importing. this will also cause errors when importing. If you are not on the internet, disable your antivirus while importing.
