you seem to have missed the fact that he is running a "LAPTOP" Most will only accept 1 internal hard drive. and as of right now I think they are limited to 60 gig and 4200 rpm because of heat and size limitations.
A lot of laptops do not have a problems, and the drivers may be the issue. I am not shure. But I have the same problem here and the offset is the only way I can get mine close to being acceptable.
