I don't think it's as critical in XP as it was in 98SE, but to do it:
Click MY COMPUTER.
Right click on the drive symbol.
Click PROPERTIES.
Click the AUTO PLAY tab.
Open the drop down menu and select the application.
Select Action TO PERFORM, or select PROMPT EACH TIME.
Click APPLY.
Repeat selection for each action the the drop down menu.
Repeat for each cdr/rw.
