This could be a problem in 2 areas:
1. Laser eyes are weak and need to be replaced.
2. Lasers need to be re-aligned.
Most likely it's #2 because it sounds like a "head drift" problem. Your computer cdrom drive is writing the data in one area and the players' alignment has drifted slightly, this would account for the "sometimes".
We had that same problem with some of the original 1995 Top Hits Monthly discs but once all the players were serviced and re-aligned and lasers replaced, we haven't had any problems since.
I'd recommend that you have JVC do the work. Local "authorized service centers" really don't know much about the difference between a cd player and a cd+g player.
