First question, does your video card support dual displays?
Second question, are you using either Windows XP PRO or Windows 2000, as XP Home doesn't support dual display.
If all above is OK and you are still having problems, right click on the desktop, then "Properties" There should be a settings tab under in the display properties window. Click this and see if the dual display is active. (Click the '2' display and see if the box "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor." is checked.)
