It sounds like you are saying that sometimes when you boot the system the D:\ drive is there and other times the drive is not there?
Do you know about how often this happens? Does the drive seem to be making any clunking noises?
If you have a copy of Norton Utilities it has a program called Disk Doctor that can test the drive to see if it finds any bad sectors on it.
What is the problems that you are having with the Imaging software also?
