I can't remember what you see the first time you install Hoster as I have always had a picture showing.
Are you saying that prior to loading a picture you saw your desktop in that singers screen and when you say desktop do you mean all the icons as well or just the desktop wallpaper ?
Or have you ticked the box for "Always on" in the Tools menu/Show display/Intermission view ?
If you un tick that box then you will see your desktop when no songs are playing.
