First check you computer ribbon cable to see if it's a:

1. Standard Ribbon Cable with 40 Pin Connections or

2. If it's a Cable Select [CSEL] with only 39 Pin Connections (one of the 40 Pin Connections is "blocked" toward the middle of the connector)

3. If it's a Standard Ribbon Cable make sure that the Jumper Connections on the Back of the CD-RW's are set correctly, one to Master and one to Slave.

4. If you have a "Cable Select" Ribbon, then the Jumper Connections on the Back of the CD-RW's are both set to "CSEL" Cable Select. To use "CSEL" your computer's bios MUST support CSEL.

5. I believe that "auto detect" implies you have jumpers set on CSEL and a 39 Pin CSEL Ribbon Cable.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

6. P.S. If you plan to "Copy on the Fly", suggest one CD-RW be on the Primary ribbon cable and one CD-RW be on the Secondary Ribbon Cable.
