Your in the right forum, I was just trying to lead you to others who are using Windows 8.
Regarding it being a problem when you connect it via HDMI.
When you connect via HDMI it sends the audio as well as video signal to the TV.
Maybe this is causing a conflict in your settings.
Now as I said I'm not familiar with Windows 8, with windows 7 you would go into the control panel/sound playback tab, select the HDMI output and select disable, (This won't affect the video side) then select the Realtech speakers and make them default unless you have an external soundcard then make that the default.
Then open Hoster Tools/Audio Controls and make sure the default audio card is showing as the playlist audio card, if not select it and press OK.
