For Hoster 5.06, we have spent weeks of time researching this audio drop out/stammer problem.
Whave discovered the following:
1. Some computers have a "Power Monitor" utility that runs at what appears to be "System Level" Priority. This means no application can hold it off. Very arrogant of them, and on what should be an "idle process" at best!
We noticed that when we hear a drop out; the Task Manager Processes Tab shows this program jump to the top at the same time.
2. Just as above, "Google Chrome" also can take control at the highest priority that Hoster can't overcome (currently). If this is running, it too will cause audio dropouts.
We just sent out 5.06 Beta 6 tonight for out Testers to try. I run an XP SP3 with 2GB RAM and a Core 2 Duo, and was dropping audio ALL the time. With Beta 6, I no longer hear the dropouts. The changes we made are a result of 2+ weeks of research, and they seem to be working. We'll soon know as our Betas will be rejoicing with us...
