Yes I use a laptop.

I didn't notice that you were using a desktop with only 1 VGA output.

From my past experience of trial and error will not allow for an extended desktop even with a "Y" cable/adaptor.

If I were using a desktop I would find a video card that has a Digital output that supports dual monitor extended desk top (either with 2 digital outputs or 1 output with an adaptor or "Y" cable attached (ATI has made these)) or has 2 VGA outputs.

One other option provided the mother board supports it would be to install another video card like what you are using already. I have seen this work for multi display configurations.
