I have basically run out of time. This needs to be resloved by 8 pm Saturday night, but I have a show tomight, a Funeral tomorrow morning, a Birthday Party tomorrow afternoon and a show tomorrow night!
I am willing to go to MTU in Raleigh (have been there twice) next week with the laptop if I have to. It's only ~90 miles from me. I just don't know where to go from here...

Try the restore as Roy said. Then do all the updates from that date up till current except for hardware updates. Don't do any of those through Microsoft.
Sounds like they will have to skip karaoke for this Saturday night, since you don't have much time for working on this between now and then.
You will have a better chance of putting in a support ticket and getting Support to connect to the laptop there and work with it. I am sending you a PM about this.
You can download version 4.32 if they want to go back to that. It is in the Support section. There are several versions that can be used. Click on the Hoster button up top in the Support section.
