The reason for having the free space on your drive is the computer uses this as a temporary swap space for memory which is what your virtual memory is, if you don't have enough virtual memory this could slow your computer down. The following is printed in the Manuel for recommended settings: - Click into the Initial size: field and enter the value (3055 MB recommended if you have 2GB RAM).
- Click into the Maximum size: field and enter 4096 or up to 2x your installed RAM (MB).
With regard extending the life of this computer I would suggest fitting a bigger Hard drive, you can get these relatively cheap now up to about 320 GB for an internal.
