Our security has been improved in many ways over the past 15 months, just implemented in the past release on most of our products. For example:

1. Now, when you order an upgrade, your older RegCodes (such as Hoster 3.xxx) are enabled to install that products latest versions. This does not work with Hoster versions prior to 4.05, so if you are running a prior version, it won't work until you order a current upgrade. Sorry, there is nothing we can do about older versions in the field that don't have this capability.

2. When you want to move your software from a WORKING computer, do it. You don't need to ask for us to reset your RegCodes.

3. We now can make back versions available foe each product on their upgrades page for those who after years of our begging... still won't make a backup of their downloaded software so they have it in an emergency. This costs us in expanded web servers to provide the bandwidth to allow this, but we haven't charged for it yet.

4. We now have added "auto-check for updates". This has several benefits. A) You don't need to add "@mtu.com" to your email "approved" list to insure you receive our notifications. B) You are shown a list of the new features in the LATEST version (not inclusive from what back version you may be running). C) You are told right in the notification dialog f it is a FREE upgrade or not, and a download link to get the latest version in one click. If its not free, there will be an "Order Upgrade" button also to make it easy to upgrade.

5. We can now "back date" the "Installation Date" that determines whether you can install the LATEST version or not. If there are mostly bug fixes, we have back dated years even to insure you are happy with us. However, if we spent $10,000 to $80,000 to add new features and/or fix really difficult bugs (often not a true bug, but a final fix for a computer/Windows problem) then we may require upgrading to get the latest version. We WANT you to be running our best version without bugs. That way you are happy with us.

6. Hoster monthly updates now include significant Brand-DiscID-Track definitions to auto name your Titles and Artists when importing. We're working on a way to offer this as a web-based upgrade of only the new records you don't have already, but that takes a lot of time. For now, we are offering the Hoster+Database (as we always have) on a monthly download. You can see these at http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster.htm.

How can we help here? This is a complaint that I'd like to help, but I don't know what you want us to do?

We realize it is getting more complex to keep a computer working correctly. That is why we spent tens of thousands $$ to empower you to move your installation without MTU resetting your RegCodes.

I expect it took you a lot more time to complain here than to actually get our help. And, out of respect for you... and existing customer... I have spend several hours answering this post.

You don't need to explain anything to us... if you have a legal request. We have a form that you will find on our http://www.mtu.com/support/how-to-move-registration.htm page where you simply agree to our statements and tell us what you want us to do. It takes less than a minute to fill out, so why don't you use it? Others do. It is painless for both you and us.

Not so! Once you have the newer version that allows you to move your installation yourself, we never need another penny from you. Think about it... with tens of thousands of customers, we had to do something to stop the demand on our Support to reset RegCodes. We have done this, and it works perfectly. Since you now know the solution exists... when you are ready, upgrade the MTU products you use, when you want to, and you can then move them to a new computer when you want to. Please stop thinking and posting that MTU ONLY WANTS YOUR MONEY because that simply isn't true. We solved your problem by August 4, 2009.

Read above. Its not a matter of trust. Its a matter of protecting us from the massive theft that happens WITHIN HOURS if we let our guard down. We also had to find a way to make it easy for you to get upgrades without asking us to spend our time helping you for free. We are still here... no raises or bonuses for 2 years now, but we're here helping you... but its a two way street. You need to now help yourself.

Today... we have discussed scanning our database for those who have purchased upgrades over the years, and have upgraded at least one product in the past 12 months, and we may send out an email notification with a coupon to come get the current versions with all your complaints fixed, so you can be happy with us. Yes, it costs us to process any order, including bank fees so we will have a charge. Then there are all the NEW features we have added that costs us over $100,000 per year. And of course making Microstudio run on Windows 64-bit (which wasn't our fault that W7 was released) was one of the most expensive NEW FEATURES we added this year. But now its ready for you when you want to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit.

Of course we don't need to get paid back for that work. We enjoy working for free. I assume that's what you do also, since you are asking us to work for free?

John, if Hoster isn't worth it, and our support isn't worth it, and you truly believe that some competitor has a better product, support, and less restrictive security, then I'll be sorry to see you go.

However, we take orders weekly from others who DID TRY competing products and for one of these 3 reasons returned to MTU. Just today, a fellow gave up his Karma because they only allow you to move the software 4 times before you have to call and get them on the phone, justify their spending their time, and resetting your RegCode. We only require that every.... well, at Karma's rate you'll die before you exceed our limit!

Nuff said. Hope you do your homework before jumping ship.
