This tells me right away it's a connection problem. You should always always use the best possible cables you can afford. A cheap cable will be your worst nightmare. I've seen all to often guys who have spent $1000's of dollars on computers, rack gear, speakers, mixers ...just to hook them up with junk cables. I build all my own audio cables, i use bulk canare or mogami quad audio cable, terminated with switchcraft, or neutrik connectors.
