unresolved sound issues

dear friends please can you help
I have a ASUS Notebook F3 series laptop (Vista home premium) that had video hoster version 3.316 that has worked ok for the last 8 months.

however today when checking some songs i noticed that there was no audio output from hoster. When i tried
windows media player this played ok and the sound was fine. I checked the sound system on pc & both speakers worked ok.
Thinking that hoster may have been at fault i upgraded to the latest version of 3.321. After I rebuilt data base i found that the new version was just the same as the old.
If I attempt to play kma files stored on an external hard drive when i open the Volume mixer there is no icon or slide control for hoster, the file plays with no audio and the time counter does not work it remains at the full duration time throughout the full length of the song. However if i split the lap top screen and see hoster and the volume control windows open at the same time and then play a video file from the same external hard drive, the instant i press play the volume window opens a new slide called (def001.hst - Hoster) and the volume is ok and the counter works ok. if i then try and play a kma file after the video there is no audio and the time
counter does not work. i can then play any video and the audio plays ok.
does any one have any idea how to rectify this problem

the hoster version in question is the latest update march / april 2008

make sure the wave volume is all the way up.

That is with Hoster open then when song finishes close Hoster and reopen. That should save the wav volume level.

A corrupt driver? Try updating your soundcard driver.

What kind of KMA's dont play? CDCDG, HDZIP etc.
Try playing the same file that played in WMP in Hoster through the audio tab at the top of the playlist.
Also try importing a song from disk into the playlist using the cdg tab at the top of the playlist.
Also try playing a kma using the mp3g tab at the top of the playlist, and some mp3g's as well if you have them.

Hopefully this will help narrow down the problem.
