Windows Media Player skipping
 

When playing mp3's through Media Player and do a search in Hoster, music always skips. It is doing this on 2 different computers. Upgraded one of them to latest Hoster and it still does it.

I am having the same problem. Any replies?

WMP is conflicting with Hoster and/or vice versa. Back in the olden days (before I started running transition/other music off the backup computer), I used Winamp for other music, as did several other users, I had no problems with it although some reported issues with importing a singer disk track to the playlist. Nobody reported any database search problems.

Sorry I can't offer any technical fixes. I can just suggest trying a different player.

Also it wouldn't hurt to make sure the soundcards drivers are up to date

If you have the WOW effects on turn it off. Also, do not run your PC vol above 90%. Why I have no idea. I just do what works. I did not have this problem until I upgraded to WMP11

I use a DJ only (MP3 player) program called SAM Party DJ. It does not conflict with Hoster (:g :g :g) and it will fade from song to song leaving no dead air.

I only use Windows Media Player to run non-karaoke discs that folks sing over (very few).

Note: I don't run MP3's during my show so there is no need for me to do a search in Hoster while an MP3 is plaing but I feel confident that SAM would not skip if this was done. Get the demo and try it out. :w

Not necessarily a conflict, it could be just the CPU is being overworked, post specs of your computer... use a CPU monitor to see if your CPU activity spikes when playing MP3s and searching at the same time. If it jumps to 90% or higher, it is likely that the two tasks together are just to much for your processor to handle. You can try turning off the visual effects in Windows Media Player, this may help bring the CPU workload down a little.

See what else you have running in the background, anti-virus programs eat up alot of CPU power, if you don't need it, turn it off. As Swany said turn off SRS-WOW effects (which uses CPU to process these effects) this will also lower the CPU work.

As I understand it, MTU has designed Hoster to have priority over many other programs, part of the reason Hoster is so reliable. So searching in Hoster may eat up more CPU time than you have available, and because Hoster's threads have a higher priority, it holds on to your CPU time until it's done before handing it back over to your MP3 player. During this small fraction-of-a-second time period, your MP3 player may stutter or drop audio.

The reason some MP3 players may work while other don't is that some players are just more CPU intensive than others. YMMV.

I had the same problem a couple of years back with pcdj the music would stutter when i was searching hoster I found that the problem was, in my case, letting windows decide the best performance for me. My solution was to go into system settings and tell the computer to go for best performance this sorted out my problem hope this helps.

you should give step by step instructions so others who dont have a clue can do this.

Sorry Beavis your right I should so here goes
To change the performance settings in windows go to control panel and double click on the icon named system once this is opened click on the tab Advanced where you should see the performance setting click on settings in the performance group and you will see visual effects, in this group click on the button "adjust for best performance" and click apply
I can only tell you that this has worked for me and a few others who had a similar problem so I hope that this helps oh and by the way this is for windows xp pro which I assume most people are still using
