Starting Over Need Help

When transfering cdg's into Hoster 3.316 I messed up big Time and need referance to remove about 173 cdg's (delete out) and start over from scratch

mindonstrike March 23rd, 2008 05:38 PM

173 cdg's is quite a bit to delete and reimport are you sure there isn't something we (forum members) can do to help you get around having to do that.? Please tell us more of what the problem is.

Otherwise just delete the KMA's and the file songs.mdb which (for 3.316 )is located at C:\program files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Databases and you'll be starting from scratch.

First step is upgrade to 3.321...it's free. Under Help click on Check for Updates and download the update from the website it opens.
After you have loaded that then you can work on your KMA files. Now the question is how did you mess up? If it is just a case of where you were saving them then you don't need to delete them throwing all that time you spent importing away.

I wished but I tried to pull up some songs (several) that did not come up. So for me it's either edit every song or start over ! My mother board crashed and the way I had my KMA's backed up was not correct I guess. Thanx

Beavis March 23rd, 2008 07:41 PM

were these kma's you recovered from the version that deleted them ??

to back up your kma's all you need to do is get and external or internal drive and go to the folder where your kma's are stored, hit edit/select all/ copy then go make a new folder in your external back up drive then right mouse click and hit paste.

nothing more nothing less.

DO NOT DELETE YOUR KMA'S !!

Then in that case do as Mindonstrike says, delete the KMA files and delete the Songs.mdb and Songs_Backup.mdb files and that will clear all entries in Hoster. I still recommend highly that you upgrade to 3.321. All the problems with disappearing files have been fixed and this is a very stable version for XP or Vista.

How are they not coming up? You put in a bookid and get nothing? You search the database for a song and it comes up "not found"?

If they worked at one time and you backed them up, they should still be perfectly usuable.

Maybe you just need to rebuild the database so Hoster knows where everything is again.

Just hate to see you put in a bunch of extra work if it's not necessary.

All has been misconfigured. No one knows the answer to my delema. I need to remove all KMA's from play list and start over from scratcch!

Beavis March 24th, 2008 10:45 PM

is it a new computer?

ddouglass March 24th, 2008 11:05 PM

Use Windows Explorer to locate and delete all the KMAs where ever you have saved them. (If it is the default location it will be in C:\MTU\KMA.) Then go to C:\MTU\Hoster and delete the Songs.mdb and Songs_Backup.mdb files. That will clear all out of Hoster.
When you open Hoster again it will rebuild the database with no entries. You are ready to start over.

I just thought if you told us the dilema :? we could help you avoid starting from scratch.

Lonman March 25th, 2008 05:58 PM

Or it almost sounds like when entering in the cdgs maybe it was done with a duplicate book id in another folder and when it was rebuilt, these files wouldn't have transferred. Maybe try to do a merge before you delete anything?

It is a new Mother board and a new hard drive. I had the KMA's backed up on an external hard drive. When I merged my KMA's to the program it did not do it correctly and created multiple ERROS. That is why I Am Going To start All Over.
Under Hoster/Edit Songs :(I did not create A Playlist but) When I go to delete a song I get Error f:2 or f:3 Cannot Delete A Song From Playlist. I have scanned the manuel and I guess I am over looking or it's not there on how to remve a song From the Playlist (inwhich I did not create one)

YOU do not create playlists. Hoster creates them and updates them automaticly everytime a change is made to it (when you add a song or delete a song). When you open Hoster the last playlist is displayed, if the song you are trying to delete is on that list you will get that error. Try deleting that song(s) from that list (select the song and click delete), then close and re-open Hoster and you should be able to use the edit screen to delete the KMA.

Final 2 things; under C\Windows Program\MTU\Hoster\Database when I open it there is two folders 1= Bucket.mdb & 2= songs.mdb ,when I click to open I get a notice choice of search web to locate program to open with, or open from program off c drive ??? This is normal for installing on Vista. In the Installation on the first page it tells you to ignore these error messages. Hoster installs correctly.

This is a trade off with Vista to allow Hoster to run as an administrator with full priveleges to allow it to access the files correctly. There is a way to stop the messages, but it is complex, defeats part of Vista's security and doesn't work on a couple of the Vista versions. There is a thread with the information in it, but I can't find it at the moment.

These are not folders. They are Access files and you have to have Microsoft Access to open them directly. The Bucket.mdb is password protected and you cannot open it at all. The Songs.mdb is the database file containing what songs you have imported into Hoster. I think this copy is the leftover from previous versions as the current Songs.mdb file should be located in C:\MTU\Hoster.

It isn't a legality issue, but multiple problems with trying to get the program to work correctly on Vista and its many versions.

I have upgraded to 3.321 and transfered 5 cdg's so far. It seems to be working properly !! But I still don't understand how to remove a song from the play list or a cdg in case I make another mistake (error) and try to avoid this delima again. I have tried the recomendations ya'll have suggested but was unable to comprehend or figure out inwich what started my hole problem. Thanx Dave

To delete a song from the Playlist (main screen) highlight the song (left click on it and it will turn blue) then click on the delete button above the playlist. However I don't think this is what you are looking for.
The "Playlist" is the main screen list used to control what songs are played and in what order.
The Songs database is the listing of all your songs that you have imported into Hoster. To delete a single song or even a whole CD's worth of songs you use the Edit Songs under the Tools heading up top. Within that screen there is a delete button too, but this will delete the KMA file (which is what you are asking for) and remove it from the database as well.
