Reset Registartion on Holster

I submitted a ticket to reset my registration on holster 3.310 and other last 2/18/08 because my main desktop computer gone haywire (lost my mainboard/cpu and main hardrive and could not retrieve anything out of it) but up to now I could not install Holster to my new laptop because I need permission to reset registration. I received an auto response email and gave a link to view my submitted ticket and the status indicated "responded" but I did not received any email or nor indication I could re-install holster to my new computer. I remembered not long ago that I submitted a ticket for KHpro and received a noticed right away that I could re-install ny KHpro. For now I just want to re-install holster to this new laptop. My old system had XP pro and my new laptop has Vista Home and I hope everything would be okey. I have been reading some problem with Vista but I have to find out my self.

Please note that version 3.310 is not Vista compliant or compatible and most likely will not work.

Reset Registration

I have upgraded version holster 3.315 but haven't used it. Is this Vista compatible? Anyway I want to try this version on Vista. Tried re-installing holster 3.310 and 3.315 but still no luck. Still waiting for reset registration response.

3.316 and up are the versions made compatible for Vista.

Finally I got my registration code reset and had holster 3.315 installed on my Vista laptop. Had troubled building my database but got it figured out after 3 hours. I just did a quick try out on my database and everything seems to work fine. Don't know how reliable this 3.315 till I used on my practice next week. Hoping everything works fine on this version. Thanks a lot everyone for all the input on this forum, really learn a lot from different posting. This will be my first upgrade from 3.310 and hope everything will as charm as 3.310. I'm also planning to upgrade in the near future or just have to wait for 4.0 to come out. Thanks a lot... (My back-up is still 3.310 which work fantastic). My upgrade version is only up 3.315

I am using 3.315 on my show computers and have never had a problem at all.

If you are installing on Vista, your KMA files, Songs.mdb and playlists could disappear at any time. Even with 3.315, you are running on borrowed time. I assume you DISABLED your User Access Control (UAC) bit. If not, you probably are already having problems importing.

Read the below post I made to help explain what Vista is really doing. It is incredibly nasty and nefarious. :e :m

In essence, when your User Access Control (UAC) Bit is ENABLED, Vista never created the file you thought you were importing into. Thus, when you deleted that folder from the Build Songs Database (BSD) list, and looked on the hard drive for it, it was never there in the first place, but we didn't even know that! :e :m

Vista TRANSPOSES all files under C:\Program Files\ to be under (see the article above as I haven't memorized the full path) C:\...\VirtualStore\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Songs. This full path does NOT appear in our BSD list, but seemed to.

We have decided the only way to "come clean" with Vista is:

1. PREVENT UPGRADING. You must MANUALLY move all the KMA files out to a new C:\MTU\KMA Files folder, and your Playlists to C:\MTU\Hoster. All Hoster working files will be in this folder (songs.mdb, bucket.mdb, playlist001.hst, log files, etc.). We won't move then for you, and we won't force you to place find files 12-16 folder levels deep. :r

2. You will NOT disable the UAC bit to use MTU software. Microsoft has now made this so incredibly painful that Hoster 3.321 will conform.

3. You must agree that you have moved all the files you want to keep before you can advance in the Hoster 3.321 installation program. That insures you understand beyond a shadow of a doubt that MTU is not responsible if your files disappear. We now know we aren't, and weren't, but we are being blamed for it.

This ONLY applies to those UPDATING from a prior Hoster install under VISTA. New installs will progress normally with no problems, and nothing to move. Same simplicity with upgrading or new installs under 2000 or XP. :c

Once installed, 3.321 files and folders are "Vista Honoring".

We hope to get a beta test version out tomorrow so we can release 3.321 this week. It has taken 20-100x longer to discern what to do, than to actually code it. "r
