planning the pages using excel

I have found that sometimes I need to plan every line that will be on a page. Generally the first line of a page should be short and the last line should be long. My problem has been keeping track of line number one, number two etc.

I discovered that if you copy and paste your text file, with lines already more or less partitioned, into a spreadsheet like excel. You can further refine each line against a "line number" column.

1
2
3
4
5
6
1
2
3
4
5
6
etc.
The refined text will copy and paste from excel smooth as silk. Editing the text is a little tricky. You can't do it in the cell, you have to do it in the bar above the spreadsheet. But the numbers won't move and you don't have to erase them later!! (make sure only to copy and paste the column with your text) That saves me a lot of headache.

Hope this idea is helpful to someone besides me.
