cannot import

when I open hoster and hit import from hard drive, nothing happens. It goes to the bottom of my screen. Also, for some reason it will not transfer the karaoke songs into kma or whatever is needed in order for hoster to import into my songbook. I have gone through my instructions and cannot find anything that states what is wrong. I am downloading songs from mirc. they are zipped files with cdg and text. Am I doing something wrong or did something happen during installation. :?

Beavis December 20th, 2007 10:00 AM

have you selected a folder in which i will store all your music ?

sherita December 20th, 2007 10:13 AM

When you click on Import from HD is the window for importing opening or is this what is going to the bottom?
The zipped files should contain a CDG file which is the lyrics for the screen and a MP3 file which is the audio. If this isn't the case then the files you are downloading are not standard format for karaoke and won't import.
Also please include in your next post what version of Hoster and what operating system (XP or Vista) you are using. This will make it easier for us to help you.

ddouglass December 20th, 2007 10:45 AM

Downloading from mirc? Are these coming from an individual who is sending them to you? I hope you aren't paying for them because this is not legal.

hwheeler43 December 20th, 2007 03:20 PM

:m Just a little pet peeve of mine. Downloading illegal crap is what hurts this business. Here is the answer to her problem. Go out and buy the CDG's and import them!!

sherita December 20th, 2007 05:15 PM

Actually I paid 70.00 and it is a sharing network. The Computer Karaoke Guide. Is this illegal?????:e I am running hoster 3.17. My operating system is windows xp. Yes when I go to import from hard drive the file just drops to the bottom and I cannot open it or nothing..The last thing I want to do is something illegal so I appreciate your imput.

sherita December 20th, 2007 05:18 PM

whoa

I thought this was a help guide not a comment to down others. Can we keep it civil and help each other. As I stated, if I have done something wrong- I will right that wrong.... It is not intentional, I am new to this and I am learning just as others are doing. It is people like yourselves that we learn from. :f

The guide itself isn't illegal (freedom of speech and all that), but using the information it contains to steal music from the manufacturers is illegal.

For MTU to provide information on how to make use of your pirated tracks would probably make them a party to piracy.

sherita December 20th, 2007 06:31 PM

the files are cdg and text the problem I am having is when I hit import from hard drive, no window even opens- it goes straight to the bottom of the page. Is there something that I do not have clicked in hoster?

George December 20th, 2007 07:32 PM

The legality of offering Karaoke files for downloading, free or otherwise has been well covered in the following thread.

http://forum.mtu.com/showthread.php?...EGAL+DOWNLOADS

Pay particular attention to ADMIN's posts, and links to other threads.

Ok guys it has been established and they have acknowledged that it is illegal, so lets figure out the problem even if they are illegal.

Sherita, if the import window goes to the bottom (by that I think you mean it goes to the task bar) then the import window is either behind the main Hoster window or it is minimized. If you will click on the box labeled "Import Hard Drive Files" in the taskbar that should bring it to full size. If it doesn't do it the first click then try clicking once more and that should bring it up.
As for importing those particular files they won't work for Hoster as they are not in a recognized format. The zipped files must contain two files. One is the audio (music) file which would be either a ".wav", ".wma", or ".mp3". The text (graphics) for any of the three formats is in a file with an extension of ".cdg"

bobcox- with the Lord December 21st, 2007 01:46 AM

I believe 3.317 uses .bin
no more .cdg

sherita December 21st, 2007 07:05 PM

ok, I clicked on import from hard drive, it does go to the bottom task next to the start button on the left- I then clicked on it and it becomes bold but stays in the task area, clicking on it again only unhighlights the box. It is not in the minimized position. If I right click on it the only thing that comes up is to move, size, minimize or close. left click does nothing.

ddouglass December 21st, 2007 07:22 PM

Ok.
First make sure you have all the Windows Updates done and I don't mean the Auto Updates. You have to go to the Windows Update page and do the Custom Update. There are items there that you must get for Hoster and the rest of the MTU programs to run correctly.

Second I would un-install Hoster and re-install it, just to make sure everything installed correctly. If you already have songs imported into Hoster they will not be deleted so don't worry about that.

bobcox- with the Lord December 21st, 2007 07:24 PM

The "Import hard drive files" screen is open somewhere,
the problem is to find it.
try grabing hoster at the blue bar at top, and move it down half way.
then click import hd files and see if you can see it.
also try to put mouse below screen and see if you can grab anything and pull it up.

This is not normal Hoster behavior, so there is something funny about your Windows installation.

As Dale said, you must do the Windows Updates using the CUSTOM button, and download everything.

Once every update is downloaded AND installed (separate functions that automatically happen), if the updates don't require it, I would click the Windows Start button, then "Turn Off Computer..." and then click "Turn Off". Once it is off, wait 5 seconds and turn your computer back on. This will clear out everything that shouldn't be there.

Then run Hoster and click the Read Manual command to see Hoster's manual. In the Table of Contents, find the topic titled "Importing Hard Drive Files as KMA Files" at the top of the second column. Read this Topic so you know what to do.

The Import Hard Drive Files screen is incredibly flexible to allow you to import almost any named files. Flexibility comes at the expense of "Ease of Use", so you really MUST read the manual before you try to tackle this screen.

Once you have read the manual topic above, click the Hoster Import Tracks menu bar, then the Import hard drive files command and have fun. :w

If doing all the Windows Updates, restarting the computer, running Hoster again, and clicking the Import Hard Drive Files command still doesn't display the screen, come back here and post what is now happening.

You're doing great in using these Forums and asking for help. Again, this problem is definitely not normal behavior so we are all a bit stumped as to how to guide you. It is very important you follow the given directions here exactly (there are some excellent Technos helping you here). When you describe what you see, please be as specific as you can. When trying to help us re-create your problem, tell us exactly what buttons you click, screens you see (describe them), etc. The more detailed you are, the faster we can succeed in getting your system up and running.

BIG WARNING!!!!!

FYI: Bob Smith, who you paid $70 to, is one of the slimeballs of the Karaoke industry. If I were you, I'd file a chargeback with your bank and get your $70 back. To follow the instructions in his "ebook" will bring you into violation of USA Federal Law (i.e. BIG problems if ever caught), which is grounds for your bank to get you a refund... PERIOD!

MIRC is an illegal set of servers operating out of Germany. Those who manage the MIRC servers ask no questions. Thus, MIRC has become the stomping grounds of many who are out to download Trojan Horse Viruses on your computer.

When you download a file from MIRC, I guarantee you have no idea who created the files, or what they contain. If you unzip a Trojan horse, its too late. If you do any banking from the same computer, or visit your credit card statement, or investment account, all your Username/Passwords are being sent, probably to a server in Russia (they are notorious for doing Trojans) and before you eat your next meal, they have eaten your accounts. The FBI busted over 4,000 persons on-line who bought data from Russia and instantly made charges around the world. I'm not being insulting here, just giving you the facts. Part of MTU's purpose in business for 39 years is to help educate folks. We are often the first to notify someone of an Identity Theft against them.

Before you download ANY files from MIRC, if you are still of a mind to do so, be sure to install ZoneAlarm on your computer, and do NOT allow any program to send data out. I sometimes scratch my head when I see warnings only to find that in the middle of things, Windows is constantly communicating with Microsoft's servers.

BIG WARNING... if you were to unzip a file and instantly ZoneAlarm showed it is trying to communicate out over the Internet, you've been infected! :e :e :e I'd click DISALLOW instantly, and unplug my Internet cable connector to take my computer off line until I find the program that has infected it. Why do I say that? True Karaoke ZIP files NEVER communicate over the Internet. As Dale pointed out, they contain an audio file and a lyrics graphics file that play, not communicate!

You have now received my friendly advice. :c
