Bad night tonight with Hoster, why?

Hoster was a real pain tonight at a show.

I had to delete my temp directory after every HDZIP KMA file that I played or I would get errors about corrupt zip files. My temp directory had some unusual files that hoster extracted.

I captured a FLASH video of this. It shows the temp dir before and after, and it shows Hoster error on about 5 different files. I go clean temp out and then they play fine for 1 song.

It is easier to see than explain.

This is on Vista Ultimate 500GB Hdd with plenty of space - Quad Core Q6600 - 2GB memory. Hoster was working fine, then all of a sudden BOOM. The only thing that has been done was some Vista updates a few days ago.

The SWF file is archived into a RAR file and is about 16MB. I placed it on my own site. I get about 900KBPS up so it may be a little slow.

Check it out and see if you can tell me why this is going crazy.

Replace the hxxp with http.

Do a search of the Hoster Help forum and you will find several threads on this with what they did to temporarily fix it. I say temporary because it is a bug in 3.317 that MTU is aware of and working on to fix in 4.000. Best fix for now may be to back up to 3.316.

The fact that it is happening repeatedly may be a good thing for support as far as fixing it goes. The problem has been so intermittent so far that finding the origin is very dificult. I watched your swf file but had a hard time making out the filenames in the temp directory. Hopefully support will have better luck and this will give them the clues they need. In the meantime I agree with ddouglas that the only way of avoiding it at this point is to go back to 3.316.

Thanks guys. I probably won't downgrade and just deal with it for tonight's show. I haven't had good luck lately with uninstalling and re-installing hoster without it missing up my registration and having to submit a ticket and an explanation.

I will just make me a batch file to clear out the TEMP in between songs. At least that should work.

Once again thanks.

Note: In the video there are unzipped CDG and MP3 files that hoster extracted that were not even in that playlist or CUED to play. They don't match the songs that were being played. Weird, huh?

Can you make the actual ZIP or HDZIP file available to us on your web site? :?

A file that is causing this error may be the missing link we need to re-create the problem.

It sounds really weird that files are appearing that shouldn't/aren't in the actual file you are playing. We need to see that in action!!! :e

I'll try to get a better video smaller resolution but clearer with sound from me explaining what I am doing.

I will also upload the files that hoster is extracting for you.

Quick question.

How many temp files is Hoster suppose to make?

Here is what I have observed in detail.

1. Clean temp folder (nothing in it)

2. Launch Hoster and get to the default screen (I have one song in my def001.hst file and it is there. It is a HDZIP.

3. There is now a file showing in my temp folder named JET699C.tmp showing 0 bytes.

4. Close hoster and it automatically disappears

I suspect this is normal, but don't know. This is duplicated each time I launch hoster and close it.

Next step

1. Clean Temp folder (nothing in it)

2. I have one song in my play list. I launch it and it plays fine because the TEMP is clear, it is a HDZIP.

3. Stop playing song. Close hoster.

4. Temp now contains these files

auout.zzz (which i can rename to .ZIP and it tests fine)

music.wav (4 seconds of nothing, opens in WMP)

rsn.cdg

rsn.mp3 (this plays in WMP and appears to be a copy of the MP3 in auout.zzz but with the rsn name instead)

I don't know what the last 3 files are for but hoster made them.

I'll try to keep the information coming. Hope this helps.

UPDATE: I was looking at my history of updates from windows update for vista. It appears that I have Vista SP1-RC (service pack 1) installed. It came from windows update. I don't know if this has anything to do with this problem or not. I am just noting the changes to the system in the past week, because I was having zero problems last weekend with hoster before these updates.

I am having a similar problem, encountered at a show last weekend. I followed what the previous poster put in and cleared my temp files and the songs would play. After I play so many files though, I get an error message about unexpected error and something about the auout.zzz file. If I delete my playlist and then clear out the temp folder, then everything works as planned. I am using windows xp media center edition on a dell laptop.

I am using the latest version of hoster. Please advise when there is a workaround.

Thanks,
Simon

here is the error message:

Unexpected error processing the zip file 0x00000200
c:documents\local\temp\auout.zzz

You can read the upgrade changes at this page. :w

Great news and super job! Now if I could just get my automated message for the upgrade link....:)

Submitted ticket already.

ddouglass December 22nd, 2007 02:56 PM

If you do not receive our email, create and submit a Support Ticket (only MTU sees) and select NEED DOWNLOAD. Include your full name, phone number, email address and "Hoster" product name so we can locate your record. Include that you did not receive the download email notification.

Upgraded to 3.318. I still have the same ZIP error problem. Can clear the temp file and they all play fine.

Just wanted to let you know.

I am going to re-install my system this week and see if it is OS related. I had really hoped this was going to fix this issue.

ddouglass December 22nd, 2007 09:40 PM

Try doing a Remove and then re-install. That should clear it out, because they changed the location of those files and empty that section when you close it.
You need to clean out all the temp folders including c:\temp (if it exist); C:\documents and settings\username\local settings\temp; and C:\Windows\Temp.

ThomasN December 23rd, 2007 03:42 AM

I'll try that first. Let you know.

auout.zzz problem exists in 3.318

Unfortunately it appears that the HDZIP auout.zzz problem still exists. I have encountered it twice now since upgrading to 3.318. I did remove the previous version before installing 3.318. Something occurs during typical operation of Hoster that causes the problem to happen. Once it occurred I shut down Hoster, cleared the Temp directory and Hoster functioned correctly again. I thought that 3.318 Hoster was suposed to clear the Temp directory on exit but it does not appear to be doing that when the error occurs.:?

New video self streaming with audio documentation from me. Shows exactly what happens and what I do to get around it.

Should stream correctly.

Yes it does. You will need to change the path to point to the correct place in XP. The temp folder is not in the same location as Vista.

i submitted a ticket, and i got an email back, that it's been received, but no download link and it just said "not viewed "( people at mtu are good on sending email they're probably just too busy caused of the holidays,) , and i'm not really worried about it, my old version 3.317 still works..i'll just wait for the 4.0..
