Do you charge more for holidays? Does every day cost the same or do you charge more for certian days.

If it's a one time show, yes - 3-5x (depending on event) going rate, if it's a night i'm already supposed to be at a club, then no.

My rates for Karaoke are:
150 dollars intown (all are within 1 mile from house)
200 dollars out of town 15 miles or more usually.
Avg. pay for area is 100-125 all-around.

Sometimes more (180) on weekends.

House parties: 200 dollars, 250 out of town

Other Special events: 300 dollars

New Years Eve: 350 dollars

I also like to add when discussing rates that Central Maine is typically an economically depressed area.

You can still buy a house here for 75,000 dollars or a rent for 300/month. Most people here have never heard of 10 dollars an hour.

Clubs in town - $150
Clubs out of town - $200 ($50 travel cost)
Party in town - $300
Party out of town - $350

I do not put a time limit on my shows, I play until the party is over. I price my shows so I don't have to charge more for holidays but Bryant's point is valad, you have to adjust your price to your market.

Generally, when someone calls and asks me what my rates are, I ask a lot of questions first. Where at, how long, how many people...what is your budget. Then I go from there. As a rule, for me to walk out my front ddoor, it starts at $150.00, in town. $175.00, just out of town, $225.00 and up for out of town.
Weddings and special functions, my starting price is $250.00. I use the wedding/special function price for one nighters and holidays. However, as stated above, if a holiday falls on a night I am already schedules, no, I have not charged more for that night.
I am only charging $250.00 for one nighters, while DJ's are charging $500.00 and up. Go figure. p.s. I am also a veteran musician, so I use the experience of that to help gauge my prices. Some of the local KJ's have descretely agreed not to start and undercutting/price war here. So, that has helped.

below were only my karaoke show rates.

The DJ rates are about the same for clubs and parties, but my wedding DJ'ing starts at 450, am I am the lowest by at least a 100 dollars around here, although my karaoke rates are the highest around here, because i don't really want to work every day, and actually quit three nights a week last summer, then raised my rates some more and am still working 5 nights a week (like i had said, all within a mile from home, keep equip. there, and at one place i use there's).
