Missing "BuildSongDBLog.txt"

:e HELP! Got Hoster up & running on my new Vista laptop. Copied all my kmas from from ext. hd onto my laptop and Built the new database. When it finished it said there were 41 files with duplicate IDs that should be re-imported with new IDs & that information is supposed to be in a text file under ...Hoster\database.

It's NOT there or anywhere else in the Hoster folder! I even did a Search of the entire C: drive, but it doesn't exist, not even in the Recycle bin. I've done this twice before with XP and did not have any of these problems. Could it be Vista related?

Vista has more than likely hidden the file in a protected folder (I forget what they called it).
Check this thread and apply it to all the Hoster folders.
http://forum.mtu.com/showthread.php?t=9363

That should show the file.

Thanks, I followed the instructions from the thread you sent. However, this was just to allow "accessing" a folder that is already there. But the file I'm looking for simply isn't there and it's not a hidden file, nor is it anywhere else on the C: drive. It appears that Hoster simply did not create it.
Really need to know what files were dups that it did not add to the database!

I still say it has been hidden by Vista. I use XP and Hoster does create the file when there are duplicates or problem files. The file is actually directly under the Hoster folder, not in the database folder. I believe there is an option in Vista's Explorer called compatability files that if you set that it will show all the files in the current folder. I don't have Vista so I can't guide you directly to it. Maybe Sam or Madjim can jump in here and give you specifics on Vista.

Agree with all except the file is IN the Hoster folder, which contains all the Hoster files, not under it. Bet you were thinking of the Hoster.exe file.

OK, I even rebuilt the database & followed everyone's advice and changed ALL security settings. I've done everything that will allow all HIDDEN FILES to be shown. I even did another search of the entire C: drive; the file simply does not exist anywhere. I don't know what else to do.

Think I need ADMIN to step in on this one!

Changing Vista Security solves problems

:) :) Found the Answer to solve the problem with Vista install.
I did a search of HELP for another problem that suggested turning off security in the User Accounts. I fully expected then to have to start over to make everything work.

To my AMAZEMENT, after changng User Accounts I simply restarted Vista. Then when I clicked on Hoster to simply open the program, it immediately starting Re-building the database. Having already done that yesterday & all songs played fine, I couldn't imagine why it was doing that. When it finished, Hoster finished opening up like normal. I couldn't see any difference, so I turned it off and looked in the ....\programfiles\Hoster "folder" and LO AND BEHOLD, there were ALL the missing files that were not there before, including the "BuildSongsDBLog,txt" that did not exist before.

I copied a .HST file from my old laptop and was also DELIGHTED that Hoster had no trouble finding the song to play from the Playlist that was created on my old laptop.

THANK YOU MTU & EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!

This is what I was trying to tell you. Those files were there all along but Vista was hiding them. Even if you log in with administrator privileges Vista doesn't allow full rights. Turning the UNC security off is one way of "fixing" it. The other is to change the security settings for the folder (and files within) to allow Hoster or your account to work as administrator in that folder. The second is the most secure and the first is the easiest.

I posted earlier that I had already followed your instructions and changed the security settings in each folder, but nothing changed, until I turned off UAC. I don't believe Vista finished the first time, otherwise why did it re-build the database again, all by itself, just by turning on Hoster! Anyway, it's working now!
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.

The only reason Hoster will automaticly start a database build at startup is if it cannot find song.mdb. Chances are when you turned off the security thing, Vista just started pointing programs to the locations where they were originally supposed to write data but did not move the existing datafiles to those locations, so when you opened Hoster it looked for the database in a new location where it didn't exist. If you have other programs that suddenly can't find their data, you'll know where to look.
