just installed hoster older version in new laptop with vista operating system
everything works except the audio is it perhaps a conflict? PLEASE HELP

Older Hoster version than 3.315 will not work for Vista. You will need to upgrade.

For the record, MTU does NOT recommend using Vista at this time. There are too many problems that Microsoft hasn't fixed yet. If you do choose to go with Vista, please read our FAQs related to it so you can avoid some of the already known and identified work-arounds.

thank you for the help...i installed the upgrade but still no audio everything else seems to work fine..any ideas?

By everything else, do you mean you get audio with Media Player or other programs?
Have you checked your sound card settings? Is anything (output wise) muted or turned way down?
Also check Microsoft for any updates. Use the custom update button instead of the express. Express update only gets those updates deemed as critical by Microsoft.

thanks for replying everything else works, window sounds cd,s windows media etc.all works fine except for hoster. There is a slider dedicated to hoster in the volume once i turn hoster on and it is maxed but still nothing everything else works fine so far.

The only thing I can think of to try from looking at Vista, is to make sure the Speakers, slider is turned up, and that you don't have the Hoster App Muted under there.

no tried that....everything is good there any body else run into this? or any other suggestions to try?

Have you turned the computer totally off and back on so Windows closes and restarts?

My Laptop has all sorts of abnormal problems if it goes into hibernation when I don't use it for a while, and then I wake it back up. Turning it off and back on always solves the problem. I'm using XP Pro.

Also, try totally removing Hoster, so any remaining older components are removed, and then reinstalling the new version from scratch. Sometimes updating an existing installation, especially a very old one, can give surprises.

thank you for the responce...did all that and still no audio! very frustrating it could be something simple i am overlooking seeing no one else has seemmed to have this problem... any other ideas?

I seem to recall in Oct or Nov of last year there was one or two beta testers for Vista who installed Hoster at the time (3.314 I think) and had some issues, though I don't recall exactly what they were, MTU came out with 3.316 specificly to work with Vista.

Admin - does Hoster use the WaveOutWrite command? Reason I ask is there is a fix in the Microsoft Knowledge base for problems with this.


gianluigi - There are two hot fixes from Microsoft for audio problems that I have found so far. The first deals with a default format setting. It is here.
The second deals with audio problems with a 32 bit program (Hoster is) running on a 64 bit version of Vista. This would depend on the version of Vista you have and the laptop you have. You haven't told us either so I don't know if this one would work or not. It is here.

i am using vista home premium 32 bit operating system on toshiba satellite 200 laptop 1014mb memory ram genuine intel T2080@1.73ghz i hope this helps i have to run a show on saturday and had to cancell last weekend... all your help is so appreciated

still no luck any other ideas? what about a external soundcard? its gotta be something i am overlooking as no one else has had this problem...thanks for the help ddouglas thus far

Try right clicking on the sound icon at the bottom right and look for mixer settings. I think it says mixer settings. There also may be a virtual surround sound settings area. It could be one of these. My toshiba has some settings where you can choose external speakers, headphones, internal etc.... Maybe it is one of these settings. Good luck!!

I don't have Vista but I am having the same problem. I am using windows xp. Not having the need to use hoster for the past 2 years on real job - I never realized that my sound does not work out to my speakers. Once it's hooked up to my m-audio 410 firewire audio card I have no audio. I spoke to m-audio last night - they said to go into prefrences - which there isn't any - and see what sound card it's going out to. Since that's not possible - what do I do?

I would check to make sure that the card you mentioned is the default sound device in audio properties.
