Microstudio Demo zapped dll file

This afternoon I downloaded and installed Microstudio Demo to see if I could duplicate a problem a shopper was having.

After determining there was no glitch in the program, I uninstalled the Demo and re-booted.

Got a message telling me that CCAPP.exe failed to load as MSVCR71.dll could not be found. I re-booted again and got the same message. I noticed that Norton was missing from the toolbar.

I went to D: where C: is cloned, found the .dll file in Windows, system 32, copied and pasted it to the same location in C:, rebooted and everything was fine.

Searched for CCAPP.exe and found it's a shared file used by Norton, and one would assume by Microstudio Demo also.

Thought you should know that uninstalling Microstudio Demo zapped the .dll file. I did not have this problem when I uninstalled Microstudio 4001 a month or so ago, so it's apparantly just in the Demo.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for Norton Ghost.:g

George,
Do a Google search on "MSVCR71.dll was not found" and you will see that a lot of programs can cause this. I was shocked to see that many different programs causing having the same error.
It appears this is actually a Net.Frame 1.1 file and Microsoft does have a couple support articles on it - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326922 & http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827073.

Admin there are also some MSDN articles on how to avoid this problem.

Why should I care how many other programs can cause this? It's up to MTU to do or not do something about one of their programs that's causing it if they can, or care to, now that it's been reported. Case closed.
