Demo will not play songs

I downloaded the demo to see if it would work with my computer, the songs downloaded and went to the main list, but will not play, I just get a flicker to the play window and it closes immediately. I read all the threads I could find and did all the downloads. here's what I have:
Gateway 250 laptop
Intel Pentium M 1.73 GHz
504 mb ram
Mobil Intel 915 GM/GMS.910 GML Express Chipset
Windows XP Professional SP2
HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4244N CD R/W
Direct X 9.0c(4.09.0000.0904)
.NET Framework v2.0

Please help, as I have seen this program work and very much wish to purchase it.

Thanks,

Herbyb

Did you do a "Custom" update or the "Express" update?
Also, you didn't list what type of burner you have and is it's firmware up to date?

herbyb June 18th, 2007 02:01 PM

express update, my burner is the hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4244n, whatever that is.

Your burner is made by LG but niether they or Gateway show any firmware updates. However Dell, who uses the same drive does have one at the below address.

For your Windows updates you need to go back and do a "Custom" update. You will be surprised how many updates are missed, because Microsoft only downloads and installs the "Critical" updates under the Express update.

Herbyb, Dale is right about your needing to select "Custom" versus "Express" for updating Windows. I truly wish we didn't have to go through all this. :f

We have thousands of users working fine with Microstudio, so I'm very, very interested to find out why you aren't.

Please... post back here after doing your Updates to let us know if that is the problem.

Thank you so very much for even taking the time to post your problem. I realize you could have just said the heck with it, and we'd never know if there is a problem or not. :)

Sincerely,

David Cox

I got every update I could. I was able to upload an audio cd and play it back. I was unable to get a cd+g to work. I imported the files, put them in the play list(just like the audio cd) when i tried to play them, their time changed from 1:30 to 0:05 and counted down without playing.

"Downloaded" from where, a cdg disc or the internet?

herbyb June 18th, 2007 10:50 PM

from one of my cd+g discs

It may be that your LG drive may not be able to read the CDG correctly even though it may be listed as capable. Not every drive will work with CDG format. Did you install the firmware update I found?

i tried but the program said it was incompatible. do i need to reinstall the demo after all the changes? or does it start fresh each time it is opened?

herbyb June 19th, 2007 02:37 AM

i may just wait until a friend of mine brings over his external plextor drive he uses for karaoke, then i can be fairly confident the problem isn't my cd device

No you don't need to re-install.
The Plextor should help determine where the problem is. As far as the changing time that is really strange. Have you looked at the files themselves in Windows Explorer? What size are they?

Downloaded and installed the latest demo just to make sure there wasn't a glitch crept in, and had no problem importing and playing.

I'd be tempted to uninstall and download a new demo just to make sure that we're not looking at a corrupted download, but it's looking more and more like the burner.

herbyb June 19th, 2007 02:11 PM

i uninstalled, found some problems, corrected them, reinstalled but it still doesn't work. here is what isee happening: the karaoke disc is read by the program, tracks and times are displayed but when i try to play a track the video screen opens and closes immediately;when i try to import tracks, the disc is read, the recording window opens and shows'initializing' then closes abrubtly and the track shows up on the list, but i know it was not recorded because i saw the way the audio cd worked and you could swee the transfer progress. the problem is probably in the cd device, i will wait until i have access to one i know works before i bother you again.

I think I can speak for all concerned when I say it's no bother.

Keep us posted.

herbyb June 26th, 2007 07:46 PM

log on

i'm having a bit of a problem, i can't seem to log on to buy the program. i forgot my password and the webpage tells me my e-mail name is not in database. i know it is, iget emails from you about the problems. i log on using a password program so i can't see what it is. please help

herbyb June 26th, 2007 09:12 PM

well, i got the log in problemworked out. i purchased and downloaded the program but it doesn't wook very well. the demo had no problem reading the songs and transfering them to the program and writing them, the full program reads about 5-60 seconds of each song. what's up?

ddouglass June 26th, 2007 10:39 PM

Are you still using your friends Plextor or are you back to trying the internal drive?
Also, did you try more than one cd (could be bad or scratched)?

herbyb June 27th, 2007 09:41 AM

i am using the plextor 740/a 1.02, latest firmware and drivers. i tried several cd's, some brand new. the demo recorded and burned everyhing i tried, the program hardly will get through any one track. the program reads and plays the discs without problem, it just can't seem to record properly. i think there is a 5 second pace between tracks, it records that nicely but then closes when it starts to record the track.
