transfering

Somehow, I lost all the songs in Hoster . . .but they're still in the computer. I can access through Microstudio . .. so how can I transfer the songs to Hoster?

just do a search for .kma on your computer

then when you find them, rebuild your database.

Tools menu, Build Songs Database command. Make sure the "Song Source Folders" window lists all the folders where your KMA files are stored.

I've tried this . . . many times . . . the Song Source folder is correct and contains all the songs . . .but I keep getting the message "parameters are incorrect.":f

Are you running Vista? If so then you need to check the knowledge base in the Support Center for this issue. The problem is Vista hides those files from the program.

Nope . . . running XP. I'm rather computer literate but this has me bamboozled! All the KMA files also show up in Microstudio. They're in there . . .just can't rebuild the database in Hoster (or Hoster Lite).:?

Have you tried using "System Restore"?

Jim

Yes . . . back to several different dates.

Are you using an external hard drive for the kma file storage? If so has the drive letter changed?

Thanks for keeping with me. No . . . no extermal hard drive. No space problems either. I've tried re-installing Hoster but to no avail.

First, since this hasn't been mentioned I would suggest you do a Windows update, but do a "Custom" instead of "Express", so you get all of the updates and not just the critical ones. Could be one effecting the way the path is listed.
You may need to do a clean install of Hoster. That would be to uninstall, then do a search of the registry to delete any "Hoster" entries, and last delete the Hoster folders in the Program Files area (do not delete your kma storage folder or you lose all you imports). Reboot and then reinstall. Your registration information will still be there as that file is outside of those folders.

May be a wild shot in the dark, but looks like everything else has been tried.

Have you tried going into TOOLS and selected MERGE KMA FILES?

That error message regarding wrong parameters made me wonder if this may work.

Hey! Merging the KMA Files seem to be working. It's downloading as I write. Still don't know why that works and the other doesn't . . .but alls well that ends well. Thanks for sticking with me.

Keep us posted.

You may have to rebuild the database.

I'm fuzzy on Hoster having had no need for it for a year and a half or so.

If that is the case then you must have had a duplicate bookid. So I would check them and see which one(s) have changed.

George the Merge command does rebuild the database, but changes any duplicate bookids, so there are no conflicts.

Will check. Meantime, would it not be feasible -- and wise -- to backup the entire Hoster program on an external hard drive?

Yes, would be wise to back up the KMA files to an external drive. However if you want a fully working Hoster program backed up, then you'd need to use a "cloning" program such as Norton Ghost, or a similar program.

Hoster can be installed on 2 computers so you have Show and Backup systems.

I'm anxiously waiting to see your final report. I hope all is now well and all KMA files are listed.

Yes, thanks to "George" and "DDouglass" I'm up and running. Still couldn't
"rebuild the database" the conventional method (???) . . .but did "merge the KMA files" and that worked. I really appreciate all the help. I have both the "lite" and "full" Hoster programs. I understand that Hoster can be installed on two computers . . .does that mean twice for Hoster Lite and also twice for Hoster? Don't know that I ever would or even should but a good question, I think. Currently, I can use either program interchangeably.

Still a bit troubled about not being able to "rebuild the database" the traditional way (in either Lite or Full Hoster) . . .but at least I'm up and running.

George June 2nd, 2007 05:25 PM

I'd be tempted to think that the database would rebuild in normal fashion now. Have you tried it since merging?
