importing cdgs to hoster

Hi,

When I try to import CDGs from the Drive I just bought from MTU into the Hoster program I just downloaded.....the software acts like it is going to work but locks up my computer as it begins transferring the first track...I uninstalled and installed Hoster 3 times...What is going on?

Hi' doug
try updating drivers for cd burner.
make sure you have all windows updates.
and go to support and fill out a ticket. Bob

ill call you in a day or two.

Beavis March 18th, 2007 05:51 PM

what version are you running ?

Busy Digits March 18th, 2007 06:35 PM

version

I am using windows XP and Hoster 3.316

Beavis March 18th, 2007 06:43 PM

do you have all windows updates ?

Busy Digits March 18th, 2007 07:25 PM

updates

I just went to windows updates....and it appears that I have all the updates... it did a verification update...and a couple for microsoft office.
Is there a site for the MTU Internal burner driver update? No software came with the burner.
I was also wondering if having NERO on my computer will cause any problems.
I reformatted recently and when the computer locks up from Hoster and I manually reboot...It used to say that windows was not shut down properly and it checks the C Drive. It doesnt say that anymore.

Beavis March 18th, 2007 07:32 PM

when you first installed hoster did it ask you for a default cd rom ?

Busy Digits March 18th, 2007 07:42 PM

default cd rom

When I first installed hoster it asked where to put the songs. And I listed a folder on my second Hard Drive(120 gig) My Main hard drive is 40 gig.
I deleted and redownloaded hoster and removed the folder. It still asks for that initial folder but goes to a default folder.
It also asks which Disk drive I am going to use. Apparently, my CD Rom drive, previous DVD Drive and the new MTU Drive all are Hoster Compatible. I choose the new MTU drive to use , then hit "OK".

Busy Digits March 18th, 2007 08:23 PM

Default Drive

I think my Sony DRU-800A DVD Drive was originally in my computer when I first downloaded Hoster. When that didn't work I took it out and installed the MTU Drive.

Beavis March 18th, 2007 08:53 PM

did the drive ever work before ?

Busy Digits March 18th, 2007 09:33 PM

drive

The Sony never read karaoke disks but the MTU Drive recognizes them. When I go to import the tracks, the songs come up (legend series LG091) Rolling stones (example). When the software begins to transfer each track, it never gets through the first track.. I wonder if 512k Ram is enough. I tried different transfer speeds also and none worked.

i have sony drives and they work very good at cdgs.
512 is plenty for hoster. (more is always better)
try getting rid of nero and reboot.
see if that helps.
go into task mang, (ctrl-alt-del) and see whats running.
and how much of your ram is being used. Bob

Did you do a Custom update or an Express update? The Custom update lists other updates that Microsoft doesn't deem as critical, but may be needed for Hoster to work.
Your MTU drive name/type and the firmware version are listed in the Tools/CD-DVD Default Drive list. Then go to the manufacturer's website to get latest firmware.
Yes you can have Nero on the computer, but you need to go to the Programs/Startup menu and delete the Nero shortcut. This will prevent it from interfering and won't hurt Nero.

update

I did an express update because I am not sure about custom updates-like I don't know what exactly might fix this issue. I have Avast antivirus , Zone Alarm Firewall and I use Ad-Aware programs. I might try turning all these programs off and trying again.(as far as the RAM). also when I do the ctrl-alt-del I just get what I am using at the time--one or two items.
I would also hate to lose the NERO capability. I'll look into that but I don't have it auto loading but I did agree to use it to open all programs. It doesnt come up when I use Hoster and I am not getting any error messages.. The whole computer just locks-up when I try transferring the disks into Hoster.

Hardware

I am using an Optiarc DVD RW-AD-717OA Drive from MTU. I typed Optiarc.com and got a server webpage.
My Graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

You will not lose Nero. Most of these programs for burning CDs think they have to start when you start the computer. The only thing that will happen if you remove the Nero short-cut from the Startup in the programs menu is Nero will have to start when you want it to instead of as part of the computer start. It will open just slightly slower. That is all.

Microsoft is not going to include any updates except to their programs in their updates. If you don't do all the updates, Hoster may not work correctly. The Custom updates lists all the updates available which lets you see what is available. Nothing downloads or installs unless you tell it to.

When you go to the Task Manager, there are several things you can look at. The tabs accross the top allow you to look at Applications (programs you have open), Processes (all the parts of programs running including many things that run in the background such as those you mentioned above), Performance (amount of processor time and amount of memory being used). The last two tabs are not important for this. What you really need to be concern with is the Performance tab. If your memory is being maxed out then you may have problems with importing.

This is a Sony NEC drive so you will need to check NEC website support and look for that model to see if they have a newer firmware ( there should have been a number toward the end of the data like 1.05 (example).

Busy Digits.....I was looking for all the specs on your machine, but don't see them listed.....The reason is.. I'm having a very similar problem in microstudio which I posted in microstudio forum in Jan. and then revisited it Mar.13th after installing 4.000 .......would be interesting to compare machine specs. I have tried everything from updates to reformatting as well as installing a diffrent cd drive. No luck!!!!

system info

I am starting to think there are too many services running on my computer. When I look at my system information- it shows 512k but generally 200k max available for use (I watched it fluctuate from 80k to 180k) running different programs. It went as low as 80k when I was on the Windows Update site and the site was scanning my computer.
Anyway, here's some stats:

Systemax 1700+ AMD
512 Ram
40 gig Hard Drive (main)
120 gig Backup and Media storage Drive
CD Rom drive (Stock)
Optiarc DVD RW-AD-717OA 1.02
NVIDIA GeForce 5200 Video Card
I have a card from Pinnicle Studios for capturing video installed but am not using it
Cable Modem
HP 722c Deskjet Printer
This computer is regularly used for internet use and has Avast Antivirus, Zone Alarm and AD-Aware running. I tried using MSCONFIG to turn off certain programs and when I turned them all off--Hoster didnt recognize any disk drives....so the answer could lie somewhere in what is running and not running to maximize my RAM... but I am thinking of getting a New Dell. This is driving me nuts.. Hopefully Bob can help me with this computer.

importing CDGS

I just tried importing a CDG TTFP-07 into microstudio as a Karaoke.BIN file and it locked up the program... It loaded a regular CD (Audio) fine... What is it with the CDGs? I used the MTU Drive to attempt the CDG Import.
