Songbook sorted by title
I have seen for a while that the Songbook when sorted by Title requires a lot of work in order to get a reliable book. Currently, the font size is 10 and the right tab is set at 3.75" even though the column width is 3.5". This makes it difficult to see which codes are running off the right edge and scrolling to the next line. I use MS Word 2003 with the normally hidden paragraph marks displayed as my cue for what is leaving the right edge. I reduce the font size to 9 and reset the right tab to 3.5" so that the paragraph marks of the left column are visible. I am thinking that you can check the song title length to see if it exceeds a certain number of characters and, if so, place a soft return after the semicolon so that the whole artist ends up on the next line. I was contemplating setting up a MS Access report to use your MDB data to make my own songbook so that I don't have to spend hours getting the MTU songbook perfect. All in all I think the layout of the MTU book is excellent as it does a great job reducing the number of pages in the songbook. If I try the MS Access report option, it will probably result in me using some VBA to get it to work properly. Perhaps MTU can further improve on their existing design to make these books near ready to use in the future. I think the perfection is too much to ask for since even manual editing requires a lot of decision making on where to break a line. The new longer name support will further complicate issues as song names get longer. Where do you break Ray Stevens' "Jeremiah Peabody's Poly Unsaturated Quick Dissolving Fast Acting Pleasant Tasting Green And Purple Pills" (104 characters and the longest song title I am aware of) once the whole title fits in Hoster 4? Perhaps Hoster 4 will have Songbook improvements.
