Backup Hard Drive

Hello Everyone, I have hoster 3.315, running on a laptop. I've been saving all my karaoke music on the laptop HD and wanted to back it up on an external drive in case something happend.

So I copied and pasted the kma files to the ex. drive. So I desided to check and see if I could just plug in and rebuild the data base. Didn't work. The computer seems to reconize the songs are there but it's not finding them when I try a search in hoster. Even if I change the location of the drive.

Any Help or an easyer way would be great Thanks Tim

What operating system (2000, XP, Vista)?

When you rebuild the database from the external drive did you get any error messages or did it complete ok?

After database rebuild did it list anything in the dropdown list for BookID or is it blank?

When you did your search what boxes were checked for searching?

I have XP

Nothing in the drop down menu

I had all of the search fields clicked.

Also when I click to rebuild database, a window pops up0 and it list the number of tracks it found. the right number I have. Am I suppose to copy more then just the KMA files to the HD or do I need to copy the entire hoster folder?

No you don't need to copy anything more than the kma files. Your problem is exactly what you did above.
If you have MUX and DUET checked it will only find only those entries with those items checked in the header.
Uncheck MUX and DUET and do your search again.

Sorry MUX or Duet, where not selected.

Also the message I get after "Currently Processing song DB" says created 0 entries. I just read the post "NO Songs again" I having the same prob tried it again today checking to be sure MUX and Duet where not clicked no luck. So I simple imported two kma files directly to the hoster song folder and built the database from there. Hosder working fine that way.

Still no luck getting it to rebuild from external HD.

What size (average) are the files on the external hard drive?

26.3 Gb is the total. 4754 songs, and really more then that. I haven't updated the extra drive in a while so it prob around 6500.

It sounds like a stupid question, but in the Tools menu, Build Songs Database command's dialog box, are you adding the drive/folders to the list window that are on the external HD? In the list window, you should see the drive letter and folder name where your KMA files are stored.

I have this below in the field.

j:/karaoke songs

gd123 March 7th, 2007 04:27 PM

Did you copy your kma files to j:/karaoke songs

or are they on J:/?

2shadow March 7th, 2007 05:05 PM

Yes, they are ":j/karaoke songs"

Not certain, but I doubt if you are pointing Hoster to your karaoke songs folder if you are using the address you are posting, as there is an error in the address you are posting. A drive designation followed by a folder should contain a \ (backslash) not a / (forward slash).

Your target should have read j:\karaoke songs, and that's where you should be telling Hoster to look.

Perhaps you're just making a typo here, and that's not the problem...dunno.
