cd/dvd drive not ready error in 3.314

I just upgraded from Hoster 3.310 to 3.314 and when I try to import tracks I get a "cd/dvd drive not ready please insert disc" error. I configured the drive defaults, did a system restore to 3.310, uninstalled and reinstalled both 3.310 and 3.314. Hoster will not see the discs. Windows and my other media programs read the discs without any problems. I have Plextor 320A and 740A drives. Everything worked fine before I upgraded. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Simple fix. Go to Plextor's web site and get the latest firmware updates for both models and install.
Additionally go to Windows Update site, do a Custom check, and install any updates listed. You may have to do this a couple of times to make sure you have them all.

Thanks for your reply, Dale. I was already running the latest firmware on the drives. I installed all of the Windows updates, rebooted. I still get the error regardless of which drive and which button I press (Add Tracks-online database/Add Tracks-local database). Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

The only thing that will cause this is something in the Registry got messed up, so to fix this Open Hoster, click on the Tools Menu\CD DVD Default drives.

Now when you drives show up, click the Down arrow beside the drive showing on the line, then click it below that box again, rather its the same drive name or not.

Once you do this, click ok, then close out of Hoster completely. Now reopen Hoster and it should now work.

Do another uninstall this time from Add/Remove programs. Then delete the hoster directory Program Files to get rid of residual files. Then delete the registry section for Hoster under HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Micro Technology Unlimited. This will eliminate any residual settings.
After all that then re-install. You will have to reset all your preferences when you open the program.

I've tried every combination suggested by MTU SUPPORT and can't get this to work. Do I click a selection in the drop-down box twice and then click SAVE? Or do I click a selection in the drop-down box, then click a selection in the "Drive Label" list in the bottom window? I've also tried uninstalling, deleting all references to Micro Technology and Hoster in the Registry. I'm very computer savy but this is throwing me for a loop. Any more suggestions would be appreciated.

This one and then click save. Close Hoster and then reopen it.
Are your drive letters correct or are they the "@" sign?

click on the dropdown arrow and once the dropdown box shows up click on the cd/dvd drive label that you want to use to read and write your cdg's and save

I really appreciate and have tried everyone's suggestions. Nothing seems to work. I'm baffled because I had no problem importing on either drive before I upgraded to 3.314. I'll try installing 3.310 again and see what happens. Meanwhile, if there are any other tricks anyone can think of, please let me know

Beavis February 15th, 2007 05:56 AM

reinstall the version that worked for now.

adlerent February 15th, 2007 11:42 AM

I reinstalled 3.310 and the CD/DVD drives work again! Since this is my backup PC that I use to import the music and not my show computer, I'll leave it as it is. I'm like Dale in which "If it ain't broke, fix it until it is!" Thank you all for your help! You guys are great!:)

Do the following and delete the Registry Keys in Hoster, as stated here: http://www.mtu.com/kb/index.php?acti...11b4ba75d3d82c

Beavis February 15th, 2007 03:36 PM

hey bryan,

does it matter if you hit the default below the word hoster or in the window to the right of the word hoster ???

i thought they were the same thing.
