Slower importing all of a sudden

On my laptop E1505, it seems that the imports are now taking twice as long as they used to. And at about 5 to 8 songs into the process it stops and freezes up the screen. The mouse sort of moves around on its on until I ctrl-alt-del and get the task manager to close Hoster. Until I do that, I can't even get the disc out of the dvd drive. The discs inport fine out of my ext. Plextor 716U; about 18 songs in 6.5 minutes.
I even tried slowing down the speed to 8 and 6 on the internal drive, but still seems to halt and freeze up things after several songs?
What might be the cause of something like that?

Could be a scratched or dirty disc. If so it will try several time to read it correctly which is why it will slow way down.

If you have been importing for a while try shutting down the computer and restart. That will clear the memory and virtual memory.

This was on several disks that all imported quite wwell from the EXT. Plextor. I had not been importing for a while either. Could it be a bad "lemon" batch of blank discs i might have purchased. memorex(which has worked in the past.
PS next time I get MTU recommended ones, but still got
50 or so of these memorex that work well for a few songs then shut everything down, and work perfectly okay with the Hoster.
Any more ideas?

All drives DO NOT run at the same speed, regardless of what their specs say.

Do you have any RECENT test results for this exact drive in your laptop you can compare to, or are you just seeing that it is slower than your external?

Memorex is not the best media to be testing a drive with. It may be a combination of media that doesn't work well with that drive also. :?

Too many variables to identify the problem absolutely.

Memorex has always done quite well with this drive.
Was actually quite fast when 3.312 first came out.
It is not only slower,(seemingly all of a sudden), but actually halts the program after three or four correctly imported songs. There was never any halting before.

I was just wondering if the memorex that has always worked, produced an "even worse" batch that made it nearly impossible for me to import from that internal drive with this new batch of disks.

Muy next purchase, will, be in fact from MTU. At this point I can only compare this drive with past and present memorex's, and compare that to the plextor
which hasn't been affected at all by this new batch of memorexes.
