Hoster crashing During file download

I am attempting to Add bin files from Microstudio. I have three computers and one crashes when i hit the "Import files" tab or shortly afterword. We are talking about six tracks and occasionally One or two will load and then I get an error message about encountering a problem and Hoster must close, send error report.
Another restless night

1. I assume you are using the Import Tracks screen. Please post here that you are or what function you are doing if not.

2. Does the same disc that crashes on the one computer also crash in Microstudio on a second computer?

3. What is the Brand (Manufacturer) and DiscID # of the disc that is crashing?

4. Have you tried importing more than one disc to insure it is not related to that disc?

5. What Microstudio version are you running?

Beavis January 8th, 2007 07:12 AM

is that computer up to date with windows ?

Hoster Crashes

My computer is up to date with Windows
I run Windows XP home
I have 1.5 GB ram
I am using Hoster 3313 and Microstudio 3004
I am working from the drop down tab of "Import tracks" screen, "import hard drive files".
The tracks I am trying to load into Hoster are bin files in Microstudio. The six tracks will load from Microstudio on My second and third computers with no problem.
The songs on the disc were a custom disc with different Brands
This is the first time I attempted to do this so I don't know if it ever worked properly.
I was thinking of uninstalling Hoster and reinstalling it. Would I loose My
Data base?

No you won't lose your database.

Do you have Microstudio on all 3 machines and imported each song 3 times or did you import with Microstudio from one and copy to the others?

Reason I ask is if you imported again on one of the other computers you could try copying the bin files from the good machine to the bad one. Then import into Hoster. This would isolate whether the problem is Hoster or Microstudio on the problem computer.

These are the answers you have given so far...

NOT ANSWERED. Please do this:

1. Use a STANDARD COMMERCIAL disc you have bought. DO NOT USE ANOTHER CUSTOM DISC for this test!!!

2. Import the disc tracks as .BIN files using Microstudio running on one of the computers that you KNOW WORKS CORRECTLY.

3. Import the .BIN files into Hoster.

4. Report the findings.

This test will be very helpful to identify where the problem may be. PLEASE DO IT and post the results.

I have loaded two standard commercial discs into Microstudio on all three computers with success.
I was able to load thirty bin files into Hoster on only one computer, the other two computers crash.
Both the computers that crash will report that Hoster has encountered a problem and must close.
One computer reports a "Buffer error". The same computer reports "ERROR! normalization by zero not valid!"
On both computers that malfunction, one or two bin files have loaded into Hoster. It took a long time.
I'm sorry but I work a mid shift and usually by 12:30 PM EST I am out the door.
Thanks for the help

Hoster crashes during file download

I can't say I am totally comfortable using the forum. So pardon Me If I offend Someone, but I have experienced very quick responce in the past and am afraid I did something wrong when submitting My last reply. I used the title of "reply" Instead of "Hoster crashes during file download" and expect that may be the problem. Please review My last post #7 and let Me know if I did something wrong.

Santo, can you import CDG from hard drive or disc on the two computers that crash on BIN import? I ask just to isolate whether BIN import is the only problem or if it is importing in general.

On the computer giving the two errors listed above, try deleting your song database, then open Hoster and rebuild it. The second error deals with database operation and you may have a corrupt song database that is causing this. The buffer error I am not sure of. Was there any more information about this error?

Also, you do realize that once you import these into Hoster on one computer then all you have to do is copy those KMA files from one computer to the other two and rebuild their database to add them in. I know this doesn't fix the problem but it is a work around if you need them now.

First, you are using these Forums correctly. Sometimes there simply isn't anyone there to answer for a while. These are FREE, and you need to expect delays in getting answers.

What version of Hoster are you using, and is it identical on all 3 computers?

The message: "ERROR! normalization by zero not valid!" indicates you have Compressor/Limitor/Normalization enabled to process the file amplitudes. These are enabled in the "Change Settings" button. Try disabling these.

It's not there any longer in 3.313, so that can't be the solution.

I'll talk to Engineering today on this problem. :?

I am testing this problem now. I have imported 20 tracks from a few CD's into Microstudio 3.004 as .bin files.

I now take these files into Hoster 3.13 and setup the correct filename field orders, then start importing.

I have imported all 20 files without any problem. Can you send me the .bin files that you are having it crash with, so that we can look at those files that will cause the problem.

You can send them to

Hoster crashes during file download

Please remember I have sucessfully loaded .bin files from Microstudio to Hoster on one of My computers and have done so a number of times!
I am working with DKK2002 the original disc, Not a copy. I can try other discs but I feel the results will still be the same.
Both computers are now acting the same. When I hit the Import files button the converting HDD track box appears along with an hour glass for about 10 seconds and then Hoster closes out sending Me back to the desk top.
Will send You the disc DKK2002 if You wishI will try other discs over the weekend. Please advise Me if you want the disc.

Hoster crashes during file download

Over the weekend I tried discs from different distributoes with the same result. I tried Legends, Music Maestro, Chartbusters and Sound Choice.
I did US Mail You a copy of the error message screen I keep getting.
I decreased the compression to 160KB and was able to load one . bin file before Hoster crashed. This happened several times and now it doesn't seem to have any affect. Please advise

I was hoping that with Hoster 3.314 this problem would fix, It did not.
I did realize something as I was looking for a fix which may be of help.
I open Hoster>Import Tracks>Import Hard Drive Files>type: BIN, which opens a "choose folder screen". On the computer that works there is no file extension at the end of the songs listed.
Aretha Franklin_-_Respect_-_DKK2002.6 (works)
On the two computers that do not work there is a ".bin" file extension at the end of each song.
Aretha Franklin_-_Respect_-_DKK2002.6.bin (does not Work)
I have attempted to alter the Define Field Order with no success.

This computer is obviously configured differently from the other two. By that I mean the display of files is configured differently. The default settings for XP is to hide system files and to hide file extensions for known file types of which ".bin" is one. So unfortunately this is not really a difference between the computers.

If you were to open Windows Explorer, go to Tools/Folder Options, then click on the View Files tab at top. Change to Show Hidden Files and Folders, uncheck Hide extensions for known file types, and uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then go back qand look at those song files you will see the ".bin" extension.

What I am thinking isn't working is the 2nd period before the 6. Try changing it to a "-" and see if that will work.

Hoster crashes during file download

You were correct about the file extensions and folder options.
I did not type the right information about the file information, the "." was already "-" sorry.
I would like to go back to post #9, if We can. You seem to be the only person giving My any feedback. Admin. replied in #10 and I haven't gotten much out of them since then.
I am able to import Hard drive .cdg and .cdg from discs to Hoster and Microstudio. The problem seems to be with .bin files only.
The error messages appear and disappear very quickly because Hoster crashes.
I am willing to attempt a deleting and rebuild of the database. Please tell Me how to go about it, without loosing My files.
Remember that sometime a .bin file will load before the crash. The process is very slow. The speed of the hard drive and disc .cdg load is normal.
I'm going to sing now! I wish I was as good with computers as I am singing.
Thanks
