Running Hoster for first time NYE!!
 

I will fire up Hoster for the first time on New Years Eve. I am excited and scared at the same time lol! I have used it for a few songs here and there just to mess around at shows and so far so good :)

I am reprinting all new books to include the new songs I have bought off the CAVS website that panorama and chartbuster allows them to sell.

I will post how my show goes after NYE! Wish me luck :)

Have no fear it will go great. You will not believe how easy it is to run a show from Hoster.

I just know it will feel strange not having to haul in all them JVC cases. Have two big cases full of the 6 disk cassets. 48 in one and another 20 or so in the other. This will make setup a ton faster. Also will take the stress off my old JVC six disk changer as well. I think the poor thing is 14 years old lol and still works as good as the first day we ran it :) however you never know what could happen after 12+ years of use on that poor player :)
It will also be nice not having to switch disks after each singer and I will also feel better knowing each disk will now be safe from scratches since they will not be used :)

Wow! And I thought I was lugging a lot of equipment. We carried our CDs in 3 notebooks of 250 CDs each. I won't go back to that. If I can't have my Hoster...then cancel the show!

I've cancelled a show one time when both my Dell laptops were in the shop. Would NOT do discs and G/F refused too. darn dell's. Now have a shuttle top-o-line model.:) :)

My decision to move to Hoster was necessitated by the fact that I was carrying in 5 cases of 304 discs plus 2 with 128 for karaoke and an additional 6 cases of 128 for DJ music. I was running out of room to store the cases for transport not to mention while doing a show. Man I do not miss lugging around those cases a bit. As most of you DJ/KJ's may know you also have to carry your discs into your home after the shows are done to protect them from the intense heat/cold in your vehicle/trailer. You will love Hoster for this simple fact alone. Just a word of advice though... if I were you I would not switch over to Hoster on New Year's Eve ... I would do it earlier to become well acclimated to it use. If you are as busy as I am on that holiday....I wouldn't want to be trying something new on such a busy night!!

I have had hoster since I think Feb of 06. I have messed around with it and really it is plain cut simple to use. Also like I said I have used it with a few songs that I downloaded off CAVS that I never burned to CD. Yeah I will be busy on New Years Eve but I think that would be the best time to break it open for it's first run. It will cut down on wait time of disk load and disk switching time. Also in case I will have the cd's on back up just incase :p I am not worried about anything going wrong :p

I hope you have imported all those discs....if not you may be running some late nites to get done in time.:g

Naaa I been done for a few weeks now with importing and yes it was about 1 week of late nights to get just the big box done lol and about 2 or 3 days to finish up the rest.
Oh what took a while was fixing everything with the book and from FreeDB... They seem to not like he'd she'd I'll I'd ect ect lol and there are a ton of spelling errors on song titles.... However that is finished as well :)

Now I do not worry to much about buying the CDG's anymore. I just buy 1 song at a time from Panorama (top hits monthly) Pay a little more but I do not have to worry about paying for songs with prac vocals and i do not get songs I do not want or need in my system this way. I have also been able to replace come crappy versions of songs from there :) Well if you get 5 or more you save 20% so really it is a great deal in the end :) Get what you want and pay $10 less then a regular CD

kilith, we're all pulling for you. I for one sure would like to hear you have run at least one show before the big New Years Eve party! Can't you arrange something at the Elks club, or an out of the way bar or some where you can make mistakes? NYE is a big performance nite! :g

Hey we all make some sort of mistakes at shows anyway :p Whether it is saying a wrong name, pushing in a wrong number, ect ect :p Hoster is a very easy program to use. Heck it is even more easy then my orginal JVC player. Like I also said before I have used it at shows before just not as the over all system. I used it for testing to see how it would sound and no one could tell the difference from what I was told. I have played most of the popular songs to check for glitches and so far so good. If i do have a problem with Hoster (which I doubt I will) I will still have my CD's and player on hand.

Well never got to use Hoster at any shows before New Years Eve... (I did however just for safety reasons revert back to 3.312) I did use it many times at home went through many of the well sang songs to make sure they were error free... and they were.

Set everything up a few hours before the show and did sound tests (it is a good thing that I got a run of the bar pretty much... they want the best and I try to give them everything I got)

Sound, lighting, and Hoster test all went perfect... Without having to mess with the CDG's (which I did bring in backup just in case)

I used to do about 12-14 songs an hour... If someone didn't take their time getting up to sing... that is about 4-5 mins per song because of person walk up, cdg change, and loading of the song once singer was ready. Last night I think that went up to about 15-17 people in an hour about 3.5 mins to 4 mins per song... (depending on length of the song of course) At one time I had a rotation of about 15 to 20 singers and the singers were happy cause they didnt have to sit for 2 hours just to sing songs...

Well in 7 and 1/2 hours of Karaoke last night I hit around 105-120 songs sang the whole night. Around 15-17 songs an hour. I didn't get done playing until 5:30AM and didn't get to sleep til like 7AM... The bar served breakfast at 6AM for free to anyone in the bar... and lol the people didn't want to stop singing and there were still at least 20 to 30 people left in the bar at 6AM lol all still drinking.:g
