List of songs, in order of installation

I am trying to figure out how to get a list of the songs I've put into the Songbook, from the first songs, or disc's, to the last songs, or disc's, in order... In other words.. from 101 to 77516, in order.

Thanks,
Ernie

I know you can do a DiscID list but not sure you can do one by BookID. You may have to take song.mdb file into Access and sort there to print in the order you want.

I'm having trouble figuring out why a list of this type would be useful. Ernie, why would I need a list like this?

bryant November 29th, 2006 01:50 PM

Sheesh, you probably wouldn't, but I think Ernie would.

Thanks Bryant, I kinda figured that. I just thought that I could learn something new from Ernie's logic. :)

I don't think hedjbren's question is out of line at all. It could be that Ernie's reasoning might be such that we'll all be clamoring to have it added as a new feature, but then again maybe his reasoning is such that it would only benefit him, in which case MTU probably wouldn't spend the time or money for it especially when it can easily be done outside Hoster as Dale pointed out.

I for one would be interested in knowing his reasoning.

My only reason, is to have a catalog of all of my disc's, in order.

Ernie will a list by DiskID work as well? You can already do that. It doesn't list each individual song but does list the discs by Brand Name and DiscID, so you can keep from buying duplicates by referring to it.

ddouglass,
No, that won't work for me. I need software that gives me all the information on a disc, since there are so many duplicate songs. I need to be able to cross reference. I'm going to setup an Access list. I do appreciate the info though.

Thanks

I see, and that should have been obvious.

Okay, gotcha, apologize for my childish sarcasm.

Set up your Access database to link to the table in songs.mdb then any changes made to Hoster's list will be directly reflected in your set-up.

The biggest problem is going to be trying to sort by the BookID. Since there are no leading zeros a number sort won't work correctly.

heydjbren December 1st, 2006 11:17 AM

I can see the reasoning for wanting a list of your discs, but I don't understand how or why the BookID is needed to make the list. The only thing you'd really be able to determine using BookIDs in sequential order is the number of discs that you've ripped to Hoster. You'd have a catalog of your discs "in order", but it would only be in the order that you ripped them, which is less useful than having a list sorted by disc manufacturer or DiscID.

What I'd suggest is purchasing a program like Visitrax, which is used for cataloging music collections. It's easy to use and would allow for faster and easier cross-referencing of discs and the songs that are on each disc. Visitrax is built on an Access platform and its' features are robust. Although you could manually build your Access database for the same purpose, it'll take more time to tweak.

(Unless I'm misunderstanding the goal that you're trying to reach, in which case, forgive me).

One of the feature additions in Hoster 4.0 will be a way to flag duplicate songs to not print in the SongBook. I should say it is a manual selection so you might want some but not all of the duplicates for each duplicated song.

When is 4.0 out.... next year... and that's all I have to say about that! :w

BTW: The BookID ROOT, if you used the NEXT button, auto-assigns the next unused number. Thus, the BOOKID is assigned in the order you imported your discs. You may want to sit down and think about our BOOKID and what it is. Read the manual on it. No other system has this, and it was requested by many, many, users over the past 6 years.

There also is a format you can build your SongBook in "My Discs" (by title, by artist, my discs) that was requested by some users to show their "Inventory" of discs to prevent buying discs again that they already had. This may aid in meeting your need. :?
