Zip File Support?

Version 3.0 of Microstudio is supposed to support zip files although it does not recognize them when you select a "default folder" that contains them. In fact, the popup displays the statement that the folder "does not contain any .bin, .cdg, .kma, or .mp3(+g) files to play. No mention of zip files at all. In "Write Disc" and "Add Songs" the zip file extension does not appear in the "Files of type:" field. What's up with this?

ddouglass November 1st, 2006 09:47 PM

It will import them as bin files to be written to a cd.

From the Microstudio manual:
"Karaoke Files shows Karaoke type KMA, BIN, CDG, MP3G and ZIP files with lyrics in the Default Folder on the hard drive. Adding these songs to the Play List and playing shows the Play Display with the lyrics highlighting to the music"

Definition of ZIP from the manual:
"These files must contain two files named the same with .MP3 (holding the audio) and .CDG (holding the lyrics) extensions"

From the Microstudio features list:
"Version 3.000 allows playing and writing tracks to Karaoke CDG or Audio CD format discs using any combination of these file formats: KMA, MP3+G, WMA+G, ZIP, BIN, MTU CDG, WMA, MP3 and WAV"

I'm not saying that the new Microstudio isn't a great program, I'm just wondering why it doesn't support zip files as advertised. Or if there may be something missing from my machine that is not permitting it to work properly.

When the files are written to drive using Karaoke CDG setting (button) the files are converted to standard CDG tracks. When the files are written using the Audio CD button the files are written as WMA tracks.

When any of these types of files are sent to the Playlist MS imports them and coverts them to BIN.

When you select the default folder you say you cannot see the ZIP files. Are you selecting Karaoke Files or Audio Files button? Should be Karaoke Files button.

Moundtown, you are absolutely correct. :c

This was a gross oversight on our part. We fully implemented the KMA "HDZIP" format files, but not the plain ZIP files. :e

We will have this in 3.001 before the end of November. We're sure there will be other mistakes we made, and we don't want to get a new release out too fast so we can incorporate all the changes.

Actually, when we import Karaoke CD Tracks, we create a BIN file now, no longer the MTU CDG format. There was too much confusion with the MP3+G (.mp3 + .cdg) format files.

Thank you for clearing this up. I'll be looking forward to the next update.

Microstudio 3 doesn't reconize Zips

Thanks for the info. I will upgrade when 3.001 is released. I have no problem with the diiferent formats, but it will make is easier for me as all my karaoke is in zip format. Having 10,000 songs just want to keep it that way it is if possible.
Thanks again,
:g

I see version 3001 will now play zipped mp3+g's but it will still not create a disc from them as stated in the manual. Is this something that will be addressed in a future version?

ddouglass November 22nd, 2006 02:05 AM

It will not create a disc in zipped mp3+g format if that is what you mean, but it will create a disc from them in CDG format. I don't think MTU ever intended to be able to create discs in all the formats but to be able to convert all formats to CDG format for burning to disc.

admin November 22nd, 2006 06:58 AM

3.001 is now available to all who own 3.000, and being delived in new orders. :)

However... YOUR STORE ACCOUNT DOWNLOAD LINK will NOT deliver 3.001. Don't ask why.... it won't. :r

You should have received an email yesteday that contains a download link to get 3.001. It is good through the end of November. Download it IMMEDIATELY and save it on a CDROM. It will NOT be available on-line for upgrade after November.

Microstudio plays ZIP files and to my knowledge allows adding them to the Write Tracks List to burn to either a CDG or CDDA format disc. I personally didn't test it (and can't right now), but I BELIEVE ZIPs can be added to the Write Track List in 3.001. Try it. :w

Are you wanting Microstudio to write some other format disc than CDG or CDDA? If so, what is it you want? :?

How can it create a CDG disc from zipped mp3+g files when the Add Songs selector, in the Write Disc mode, does not allow you to select zip files? You may only select bin, cdg, kma, mp3, wav, & wma files.

lmcmains November 22nd, 2006 08:58 AM

I have selected zip files and been able to write a playable disc. In fact I have made 2 of them and had no problems.

ddouglass November 22nd, 2006 09:15 AM

Larry is it possible you added them through the playlist and that this may have been missed in the Add Songs window? I don't have the program with me here at work to check.

lmcmains November 22nd, 2006 09:32 AM

Dale
I think I had them in the MTU Micro Studio Songs folder, which is the default folder. I will check it again tonight. But I have written two disc's

ddouglass November 22nd, 2006 10:16 AM

I was referring to the way they were added to the "write list." There are two ways to add them....from the playlist.....and from the "Add Songs" in the Write Disc screen.

admin November 22nd, 2006 01:09 PM

Verified it, and we goofed! :e

We can now PLAY ZIP files, but that's it.

This will be added in 3.002 when it releases. :w

1. Playlist: allow adding zip files to the Write Disc List

2. Write Disc: allow the Add Songs button to add them to the Write Disc list

3. Write Disc: write zip files to the selected CDG or CD format disc

lmcmains November 22nd, 2006 01:52 PM

Could it have been one of the beta's that I used? Like I said I though I wrote two disc's using zip files. I will check it tonight.

I wasn't able to write the disc with zip files. Remember in the beta fourm I couln't load more than 13 files. That was because the other files were zip files. So I didn't write a disc with zip files

zip file issues

Microstudio3.002

It's very selective about the zip files it will open. Charbusters open, Sound
Choice zips are a problem. I think it's a great program, but I feel a future
upgrade to open all zips with cdg & mp3 files in them would be fantastic.
