KHP.. still the best

Just wanted to give a special shout out to MTU for producing such a fantastic new version of KHP. There are so many options now, that I have been very busy making songs.

Are there any improvements being made on the redraw speed?

What do you mean by redraw speed? Please be specific including which mode (lyrics placement or playback). :w

Re: Redraw

I apologize for my vaugeness..

I meant the redraw of the next set of lyrics that appear when the last line is sweeping.

I have experimented with different amounts of lines, fonts, etc and was still wondering if the speed of the "screen refresh" was going to increase.

I have looked at some commercial (please don't shoot me) discs and noticed that the sweep is faster, and would be useful on some of the faster songs.

Agreed, that these are professional discs, and I'm probably asking for the world (relatively speaking), but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Thanks MTU.. you still rock!

Would it mabye be possible for redraw to take place in the instance that when the third line starts it redraws the first and then when the fourth line starts it redraws the second and so on ........

Re-draw types...

Well if you study the existing commercial karaoke discs, you'll notice that there are really only two different types of 're-drawing' the graphics...

Type 1

This is the type currently used in Karaoke Home Producer. This allows 'sung' lines to be erased while 'unsung' lines are still being sung. It's similar to the technique used by DK, which DK called Edit-A-Vision. The basis principle of this is to allow new words to appear and old ones to disappear within a single 'screen' if you like. There are other varieties of this, such as Music Maestro graphics, where each lines disappears immediately after it has been sung (in most cases).

Type 2

This is the type used by Sunfly. The words on the screen do not 'erase' in the same way that they appear. Each page of lyrics stays as a page and there is no 'in-page editing'. Once all the words on that particular screen/page have been sung, then the entire screen immediately turns black (or whatever the background colour may be) and the new words stars to 'draw' on to the screen. This is much quicker than the method used in KHPro because it eliminates the time taken to clear away the 'sung' words, they're all removed instantly in a split second.

I'm hazarding a guess here, but I think that Karaoke Pro is capability of selecting between both types of sweep removal. My evidence for this is that we know Sound Choice owns at least 1 Karaoke Pro terminal, and all Sound Choice songs used Type 2 CD+G removal. (Correct me if I'm wrong).

What we need to introduce into KHPro is a switch to toggle between both types of 're-drawing'.

I believe what scoob was saying was basically that he needs the redraw to occur faster. Don't necessarily need a different type of redraw, or need it to start at a different time (although that may be a good option) I have run into the same problem that torments scoob.

Playing around with a very fast newer rock song.. I got everything done, but it wouldn't draw the next screen fast enough. By the time it was visible it was already half highlighted. I've been playing with different number of lines, and number of words on each line. Seems to work best for really fast songs to have only one or two words on each line and like 6-8 on the last line, with say 5 or 6 lines on each screen. But even that still wasn't quite fast enough for this song. Here's a hint, I had to use the emspace's instead of the spacebar between words for each line. so I could hit space once/line. They sang pretty fast! Anyway I think I've said my piece. it would be nice for the redraw to occur at a quicker pace once it begins, or perhaps have a setting to allow for choosing on which line it will begin the redraw.
