Singer's nam Display goes awry

When I hit the skip button for a song after I stop it, then move down, the SND screen shows an incorrect lineup of singers. It always seems to happen when the top song on the list is higlighted skip. The workaround is to hit play for the next song in sequence, then hit stop, and the SND screen reads the correct lineup. Anyone ever notice this. This has caused a few problems as most of my regulars run to the monitor as soon as they see their name up on the SND screen (it's on a separate big screen for all to see.). Or they yell out or come to me and say, "hey, bryant, I've already sung that song you got me up for)!

A more thorough example would have been helpful in trying to understand the problem

In trying to recreate this as you describe it (assuming manual mode), the only way I could get it to do that is if there are songs above the currently playing song in the playlist that do not show a status of "skip" (in other words they have a status of "ready" or "played"). This is normal.

If you need to have songs in the playlist above the currently playing song that have a status of ready or played, your only recourse I can see is to use the skip button to stop the currently playing song and then highlight the next song and play and then go back and "skip" the previous song if for some reason you want to save it, or have everything above the currently playing song in skip mode until you need it.

A different work around is to click the SND button once. This will update the list without moving it.

The list doesn't update until after each song completes. The question is why are you stopping the song and then "skipping" it? If you are trying to keep your listings there is another way. (Sam help me out here as I don't have Hoster or the manual here. What is the setting to retain the playlist?)

The SND button doesn't do the job in this case! In fact, the SND button causes the screen to revert to the "wrong display" after I do my workaround.

I skip songs do end them to cut out the long endings, place them in skip mode so as to let me see that the only ones in the list that say "ready" are those that have not been played yet. All others above will say "as played" or "skip"; all those in line to be played will say "Ready". It is easy to visualize that way so I have established that as my convention.

I do not see why this is considered normal, either, I mean the singers name display reverts to the first four singers in the entire set that may have occurred 3 hours back and are indicated as "played" and should not occur again in the SND display. It would be nice to have the next four "unplayed" singers appear regardless of the situation I would think.

In that case, I would guess it needs to be addressed in next major update of Hoster. If all the listings above were "Skipped" I bet it would revert to the first unplayed. When they added the "Played" function in they must not have thought about having SND check for that as well as the "Skip" to make it go to right listing.

just got a question?..why dont just stop the song when it starts to fade..thats what i do in order to shorten up the long wait...works for me

mindonstrike September 26th, 2006 06:32 PM

I'd post something in the new feature request forum and until then make a habit of keeping all your stuff above the currently playing marked as skip

That's what I do Billyo. But immediately after that I change the status to "skip" instead of "unplayed" because I want only the "unplayed's" to be those that have not sung yet. So the top "unplayed" song in the list is the next singer.

I see, but can you change a "played" song to "skip" status.

Bryan, I posted this to Admin as a bug to be looked at, so hopefully they can fix this one easy to include in next release.

this is what i do, after i stopped the song when it starts to fade, i just delete the played song.( ctrl x)..so what i have left on my playlist would be the song for the next singer..you can delete the played song while the next singers song is playing.

Thanks douglas, and I notice it also happens when you get to the bottom 3 or 4 singers of a lineup. It happened last night. The first four singers of the evening showed up again, really weird.

Billyo-I always keep a complete list of the evening's singers for future reference and counting purposes, so I do not delete any. Once in a while I'll skip someone totally(before they have sung), and jump back up and let them sing later (when they return). But I always keep all the "ready's" status dedicated to only those that have not sung yet. So above the current singer is only "skips" and "palyed's" who have all sung and below the current singer is all "ready's". On the right of the hoster screen is a little column of notepad with the precise rotation, as usually most of the rotation is developed the first hour of the show.

Thanx again Douglas

oh ok..i guessed it works for you..but what i do was before i start my show most of my regulars will hand me a slip of what they want to sing and i will keep it aside in order..and when its time for them to sing they will hand me another slip.. ill put aside around 5 slips..and when i get more singers i will add it at the bottom of the first five..etc.that way everyone will have a chance to sing and my playlist will be in rotation order..but if what youre doing is working keep it up!

Ricky,
I don't know if you noticed but this thread is one year old. :e The version of Hoster you are using does not have this problem because it was found a year ago. I commend you on your response, I replied to an old post not paying attention to the date when I became an active member of the MTU forum so I understand. :)

Just Trying To Help!
