Hoster closing on import

I've experienced this problem periodically with a number of different versions, but was surprised when 3.303 did it to me as well. If I import a song from a singer's disk when the song that's currently playing was also imported from a singer's disk, it will frequently close Hoster as soon as I click "Add Track". I don't know if it does this 100% of the time, as I usually try to avoid this scenario, but when I have a lot of singers bringing their own disks in, I'm not always able to do the import when a KMA song is playing rather than a CDCDG song. Can this be addressed? It doesn't happen often - as I said, I try to avoid the situation whenever possible, just in case - but even once during a show, to have Hoster close when a person is 30 or 60 seconds through their song is just not too cool. It makes me really nervous just to load a singer's disk in the drive! :g

do you get any windows error messages or any other pop ups?

mikedomi April 28th, 2006 01:26 PM

hi songpony

I don't know if anyone has tried this yet

but try a diff model cdrom drive if you are using a plextor 12/10/32 try a
48/24/48
it may have to do with the way the drives are supported

good luck

No pop-ups, errors, or messages of any kind - Hoster just closes. I can open it back up and pick up right where I left off. I have a relatively new Plextor drive, so would be surprised if that's the problem. It just seems strange that it ONLY occurs if the song that's playing is also one that was loaded from a singer's CD - if nothing is playing or a standard KMA file is playing, I NEVER get this problem.

songpony, we have not heard of this specific problem before. I'll have our proogrammer look at it quickly. We are working on 3.310 and this problem definitely needs to be fixed ASAP.

admin April 28th, 2006 04:14 PM

We just tried importing four songs from "singer's discs" while playing the first, and saw no problems. We were using 3.310 which has significant changes related to the import code.

Please answer these questions:

1. How often do you see this shut down (X times per month, or Y times out of every Z times played back to back, etc.)?

2. What is your processor speed?

3. What Windows version and Service Pack are you running?

4. When was the last time your hard drive was reformatted and Windows installed from scratch?

We want to diagnose your problem as well as see if it is within Hoster. When a program just shuts down, it is usually Windows that does this, not the application.

I have imported 5 songs while playing one back, using the CDG button and it works no problem on my system.

The only times that I have seen this happen are when the system has something else going on at the same time, that throws the graphics out of sync with the Audio.

Join the club!

I don't do it if at all possible, as well.

Just another thing that we DON'T do in Hoster.

no probs here!

mindonstrike April 28th, 2006 08:29 PM

Works OK in my system, imported 3 songs (oepning and closing the tray each time) while another cdg import was playing and had no issues.

I forgot to try this while testing but, I think I read somewhere someone was having an issue with clicking "add track" before the cdrom finished spinning up - IE: Try waiting until the light on your cdrom shows that it is ready to read after inserting the disk (15-20 seconds?) before you start the import.

Just to pop in here with regard to importing singers disc while playing another. I still have the drag problem, had my computer guru look at it, make some adjustments, etc. Still have the " drag " problem. Don't know what it is, why it is doing it...but, I am curious about Hoster 3.301. Might this address the problem? And...am I the only one who has experienced this problem? Yes, I have done all my updates, anti virus, etc. Still have plenty of room on my hard drive..200GB. The only other program I have is Winamp, and have tried not running it at the same time, just to see.

Uh Huh...well I loaded a Singers disc last night, while a SONG WAS PALYING, and the Graphics FROZE until the KMA Phase was done. Then, the SND jumped in front of the Graphics blocking the COMPLETE Singer's Display.

Ho ster does NOT close, mind you.

This has happened in all released versions, since the SND was implemented.

I have brought this to MTU's attention, but, obviously, nothing has been fixed.

I suspect that resources are the problem, as Ho ster needs about 1.5 GIG of RAM to run properly. Ho ster has always been a memory hog.

I increased my memory on my HOME Computer to 1.5 GIG and the problem of Frozen Graphics and the SND gaining FOCUS over the Singer's Display has NOT happened.

System BASE MEMORY seems to be the KEY.

response to Admin's questions

1. It's hard to say how often this occurs, as I really try hard to avoid loading a song from a singer's disk while a CDCDG song is playing. I've been using 3.303 since the first week it was released, and I've had this problem occur once - however, I've only tried it under this scenario that one time.
2. My processor speed is 2.4 GHz.
3. I'm running Windows XP Professional SP1 (I heard too many negative things about SP2 so haven't upgraded).
4. I'm using a Shuttle computer I built almost exactly a year ago. Hard drive was brand new at that time, and that's the only time it's been formatted; that's also the time that Windows was installed.

Hope this helps.

What happens with me on 3.301 is once in a while some singers' discs will crash Hoster. It seems to happen when I try to import a song and it doesn't take, then I'll try again to make sure I did everything right, and on the second or third try at importing that same disc it will crash the program.

One time I just used my own kma version thinking it was the same as his, but it wasn't. I apologized and explained what I had done, but since then that person has stated, "I'm not going to his show anymore, he doesn't play my discs."
